To correct my original post, in games with ABS the regulations apparently overrule the rule book so ABS is the official zone (usually laws or rules control over regulations in a legal sense). Now if there are games where ABS isn’t set up (non MLB stadiums…the MLB little league game, Rickwood, field of dreams) I suppose it goes back to the rule book? Or if ABS isn’t working? Then the umpire calls the actual rule book zone? In any event, it’d be nice if there was just 1 officially defined zone across all of baseball, but that’s probably just me.
Umpire incompetence or a Rulebook/ABS Mismatch issue? 🤔
This pitch may have been both:
-a Strike according the rulebook strike zone (3 dimensional/starting at the front of the plate), and
-a Ball, according to ABS (2 dimensional/measured at the middle of the plate).
