Employees are facing increases that could amount to HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS A MONTH or significantly more coming out of each paycheck depending on your position. And that's just to maintain healthcare coverage that was previously paid for.

You deserve to know the full picture before making your decision. These increases directly reduce your take-home pay.

Sadly on January 18, 2026, OPD Officer Andrew McKuhen drove through a red light at South Semoran Boulevard and Hoffner Avenue and murdered Milagros "Millie" Ortiz when he t-boned her. Orlando deserves better than what I see as questionable and incompetent leadership from Police Chief Eric Smith.

Officer Andrew McKuhen was given an 80-hour suspension after the crash that killed 92-year-old Milagros “Millie” Ortiz. But records show he gave up 80 hours of PERSONAL LEAVE in lieu of serving that suspension.

Your members deserve transparency from the people supposed to be representing them. Instead you bargain deals that don’t favor them!

Before asking Lake County taxpayers for additional funding for teacher pay. I think it's important to also talk about what is happening to the take-home pay of the people already working in our schools.

Some Lake County school employees are seeing significantly more money coming out of their paychecks for health insurance. For all the lower-paid support employees, even $100+ per paycheck can make a serious difference.

Teacher pay matters. School safety matters. Mental health matters.

But does that not apply to teacher assistants, custodians, cafeteria workers, bus drivers and other support employees to afford to keep working in our schools?

If we're going to have a community conversation about funding and retaining school employees. I think we should have the whole conversation. This includes wages, benefits, insurance costs and actual take-home pay.

Lake County employees deserve to be part of that conversation too.
