It's key to understand DISTRIBUTION. That’s what makes the entire industry run & dictates decision-making. @SamanthaHorley nails it when she talks about finding an audience. No audience = no distribution. No distribution = no finance. No finance = no film.

So I promised some cold hard truths to writers about submitting scripts to execs. Buckle up, this is gonna be bumpy. #scriptchat
The first thing to say is that they assume it’s going to be shit. Sad isn’t it? The fact is that most scripts are. Even the packaged* ones.
@RealSPonyHill@LeeGoffIII Once the first one gets a distribution deal and a release date in the US, you should blitz every management company and agency and make as big a splash about this as possible. That’s when they’ll see the $ signs flash up around you and I bet you’ll get some interest then 👍
@QTarantino_ You don’t HAVE to move to LA to get something made but you can’t expect LA-type opportunities without being there. What you can do is look for other opportunities where you are by engaging with the local filmmaking scene. That can be the springboard for a move to LA if you wish.
@MorganDrasan@BenJohnson2018@HwoodScrptReadr At this early stage, everyone is scared of saying yes in case it doesn’t go anywhere & everyone is scared of saying no in case it turns out great. The fact you even got a response gives you some leverage, you may as well use it! Then go back to them when you have more in place 👍
@Jus10Hendricks @Timobros His fee would probably have been a lot less AND he likely had to work a lot longer on the film, guiding it through prep, photography, and post. Likely at least a year when he couldn’t really take on other jobs while the actors probably gave a month or two.
@MissBrooks2204 In many ways Dalton fit most criteria for the perfect Bond, he was very unfortunate to have gotten the role in the 80s when the franchise was losing steam, the scripts weren’t that great, & ultimately the films turned out to be a bit meh. Imagine him in some of the 60s/70s films!
@NicCurcio Had people doing that to us and it was at best bizarre and at worst a bit scary. The likelihood of someone taking a meeting with that person - then or in the future - is really minimal.
@johnzaozirny When I first got to LA, an older producer told me that the art of producing is based on two lies: (1) “We have the money”, and (2) “We have the cast”. He said the best producers are the ones who know when to tell each lie and to whom. A bit exaggerated but… still holds true!
