@_onthewayjay AND HE REAR PROJECTED REAL BATS IN BATMAN BEGINS!
Lol, just kidding.. I think Following and Oppenheimer are 100 CGI free, but there are no shortage of CGI moments in his more "Blockbuster-ish" type movies.
@mikemovies ^ Anything from The Sound of Music to the Godfather would probably be ruined, as epics generally rely on the more still runtime to let the characters develop.
It probably would be funny to see Lawrence of Arabia in 90 minutes, not gonna lie.
@mikemovies ^ I really think Man of Steel could work as a 90 minute movie. (spoilerz)
Clark's difficulty in growing up/ his self acceptance as Superman/his battle in Smallville being the final one, and the phantom drive as the appropriate punishment.
Take the World Beam and Zod fight out.
@mikemovies I'm going to get controversial with this..
But Ben Gardner's face popping into frame in JAWS.
I think the initial screenings had a toned down version of the "jump scare" that Spielberg had refilmed in his editors pool.
I'd prefer it if the chum "jumpscare" was the first one.
@MsigwaIvo LOTR easily.
"One doesn't simply top the definitive movie fantasy trilogy just on the quality of The Dark Knight."
"That still only counts as one!" :P
@faceuh8 You know what..I don't it tries to be a "great" movie, just a fun one, and I respect someone who doesn't have fun watching it.
But also, compatable space malware, Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, and a surprisingly flexible Air Force One.
Yes, Mr President, fight those aliens!
@rachel_reviews ^ Come to think of it, I think it might be a more escapism thing..
Like, does the Incredibles (04) have a cultural impact?
I mean, aside from "No Capes!" memes, I really think that it's cultural impact is just being a VERY good movie, and this is 100 percent okay.
*beyond being a good movie...
---
And so I think "cultural impact" usually implies having imagery or memorable moments that are inescapable.
And not all cultural impact is good (MARTHA!)
To me, the debate of CI is essentially implying every good movie works beyond its confines
@bestofstarwar ^ Weekend at Bernie's arguably had a bit of cultural impact..
From implying that powerful people are just puppets, to basically that there's a puppet-master pulling the strings of the lifeless, to the weird Super Bowl commercial with the pond.
And it doesn't work for me.
@bestofstarwar ^
I don't think The Fugitive (1993 - haven't seen the show) had cultural impact. It was parodied in The Mask, but I don't think the general public appreciated it beyond be a good movie (which is fine)
(contrast)
@Danimalish ^ That being said, Batman Begins really set the tone for "believable" superhero movies, the idea of Batman as both contemporary and human as opposed to abstractly a superhero.
Perhaps its biggest innovation was more how good it actually was :)
@Danimalish I'm not going to defend Bryan Singer as a person (he's a child molester) but I feel like the X-men films did the "grounded" thing before Nolan (and I'm sure there were a few before that)
The Rocketeer was also made in cooperation with the comic creator.
