Another day, another show cancelled after one season on Netflix (Kaos, this time). This is why I never bother watching any TV other than limited series, or old stuff that's already complete. They just never give anything a proper chance to get going
Rewatching Dr. Strangelove has me thinking that maybe my tastes have changed a good deal since I was a teenager. It was fine, and technically great, but I felt it dragged at times. I think I just prefer films with warmth, rather than Kubrick's cold technical brilliance.

Rewatched The Times of Harvey Milk tonight. It'll make you sad, and then it'll make you rage, but ultimately it makes you hopeful. What he stood for is something that can never be killed, a kind of strength and hope that stands for eternity. A documentary well worth watching.
And His Motorbike, Her Island was the one I was disappointed by. It seemed more fetishistic than romantic, and the characters were all paper-thin. I found its stylistic choices grating rather than charming. It fell flat for me, sadly.
Also I watched all the films on the 80s Obayashi boxset and would rank them as follows (most to least enjoyed): The Island Closest to Heaven, School in the Crosshairs, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, His Motorbike Her Island
The Island Closest to Heaven was probably the most grounded of the four but also the most romantic. School in the Crosshairs was fun in an expressive, other-worldly way. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time had its moments but I couldn't buy into the story's resolution
Really enjoyed the translation notes special feature on the @thirdwindow School in the Crosshairs blu-ray, was great getting a bit of context on the time period and production, and insight into the translation process. Shame it's not a more common feature!
