The Bay Area is looking to attract film and TV productions that fled the state. To achieve this goal, California launched a $330 million tax credit program. The state hopes to generate $11.2 billion in direct in-state spending over the next ten years.

In 2021, Santa Clarita granted 562 permits for 13,169 filming days with an economic impact of over $34 million. In addition, the productions buy locally and use local filming sites. The fees and taxes add millions to the general fund budget for the city.
