Watched #Awarapan2 last night. To be honest, the movie is just okay and a big letdown compared to the 1st part.

#Batwara1947 is honestly better than this.

Emraan Hashmi is one of my favourite actors,N he’s the only thing holding this movie together for me.Expected much more from it.

The music N supporting cast were a big disappointment. Hope the 3rd part does justice to the franchise.

Based on #AsgharWajahat's acclaimed play 'Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai', the film revisits the horrors and upheaval of partition through an intense story.

After memorable collaborations like #Ghayal [1990], #Damini [1993], and #Ghatak [1996], Santoshi and Sunny reunite with a completely different story and a new set of characters.

Santoshi handles the material with conviction... The recreated #Lahore of 1947 looks authentic, while the ambience effectively captures the turbulence, uncertainty, and fear of the period.

The first half takes time to establish the premise, but it's the powerful second half that truly delivers, with several brilliant moments bearing the unmistakable Santoshi stamp.

A few sequences in the second hour stand out...
⭐ The assault on #ShabanaAzmi by a mob on the streets of #Lahore, followed by the action that erupts soon after;
⭐ Sunny's fiery sequence in the police station immediately thereafter;
⭐ The finale, which is sure to spark conversations and discussions.

In fact, the film doesn't shy away from violence, aggression, and conflict... The aggressive dialogue, street fights, and mass-oriented sequences lean heavily into the familiar #SunnyDeol cinematic grammar... Yet, the narrative remains firmly rooted in its central idea: humanity must rise above hatred.

Far removed from his familiar patriotic or revenge-driven characters, Sunny is outstanding here, bringing restraint, vulnerability, and authority to the part.

#ShabanaAzmi is exceptional, bringing extraordinary dignity and emotional depth to her character.

It's a delight to watch #PreityZinta on the big screen after a long gap... She is first-rate... #AbhimanyuSingh is competent, as always.

#KaranDeol is raw and needs to further polish his acting skills... #AliFazal has his moments, but the character is half-baked.

There's not much scope for songs in the narrative [#ARRahman], but the one track that stands out is #KahaanChaleGayeHoRam... It arrives at a crucial juncture and seamlessly leads into the solid pre-climax and finale.

⭐ Final word? #Batwara1947 is worth a watch... Yes, it defies the familiar template associated with #SunnyDeol films, but it has the emotions, performances, and, above all, the message to strike a chord.
