I welcome the announcement of an agreement between the United States and Iran. Congratulations to everyone involved, including Pakistan, Qatar, and the other mediators.

This agreement paves the way for ending the war and opening the Strait of Hormuz, which will have a significant impact on the region and the global economy.

I urge all involved to take advantage of the situation and find a lasting solution to the conflict in accordance with international law.

Today is the World Day Against the Death Penalty. Finland strongly opposes the death penalty at all times and in all circumstances. It is a cruel and inhumane punishment that does not stop crime and denies human dignity.

[Rajavartiolaitos @rajavartijat]

The Entry/Exit System (EES) will start operations on 12 October.

EES is an automated IT-system for registering non-EU nationals travelling for a short stay.  It modernises border management by increasing efficiency and quality of processes at the border.

[Alexander Stubb @alexstubb]

Today, I discussed with President of Iran, @drpezeshkian.

We had a frank discussion about the regional security in the Middle East and Iran's nuclear program.

I underlined that providing weapons to Russia is against fundamental interest of Finland and Europe.

[Elina Valtonen @elinavaltonen]

Constructive meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. I underlined the EU position that a sustainable solution to the Iran nuclear file can only be achieved through diplomatic means. I stressed that Iran must resume full cooperation with IAEA.

Turvallisuustilanne Iranissa on heikentynyt. Seuraa paikallisviranomaisten ohjeita. Harkitse maasta poistumista tarpeen mukaan. Lentoliikenteessä on häiriöitä. Seuraa paikallisviranomaisten ohjeita ja ilmoita tilanteestasi läheisillesi.

[Elina Valtonen @elinavaltonen]

The suffering of civilians in Gaza must end. Finland calls on Israel to assume its responsibilities under international law and to ensure access for humanitarian aid. The UN and humanitarian aid organizations must be allowed to operate fully and impartially. Humanitarian aid must not be politicised. Forced displacement of populations is a war crime and cannot form part of any solution.

We call on Hamas to release hostages and encourage the parties to return to the ceasefire.

Israel's security must be guaranteed in accordance with international law. Peace negotiations must be started immediately on the basis of a two-state solution.

The Embassy of Finland expresses its condolences to the families of the victims and all those affected by the incident at the Shahid Rajaei Port in Bandar Abbas on 26.4.2025. We wish speedy recovery to those injured.
