À l’époque romane, certaines portes n’étaient pas de simples entrées, comme en témoigne cet ensemble sculpté du château de Tyrol.
Sur ce portail alpin vieux de près de 900 ans, lions, monstres, plantes et créatures fantastiques composent un immense langage symbolique.
Un lion pouvait représenter aussi bien le Christ… que le Diable. Le lierre sculpté autour de la porte incarnait l’éternité et la mémoire.
Derrière ces figures se cachait toute une vision du monde, où le combat entre le bien et le mal se jouait jusque dans la pierre des châteaux.
