There is a growing tendency to make Shiʿism something palatable to everyone—as though its teachings must be softened or repackaged in order to be accepted.

But the fact of the matter is: Shiʿism is not for everyone and not everything in Shiʿism is to be given to every Shiʿa.

Our Master, Abū Jaʿfar al-Bāqir عليه السلام, gives a principle:
“Indeed, this discourse of yours (the discourse from the Imam) makes the hearts of men recoil from it. So whoever accepts it, give him more of it; and whoever rejects it, leave him alone.”

إنّ حديثكم هذا لتشمئزّ منه قلوب الرجال فانبذوه إليهم نبذاً، فمن أقرّ به فزيدوه، ومن أنكر فذروه،

The point is not to force people to accept what they find difficult. The Imām’s instruction is precisely the opposite: those who accept it should be given more, while those who reject it should be left alone.
