The Internet bullied a movie company to change sonics appearance in the movie and now have bullied EA twice to dial back their microtransactions. Hell yeah #CFBPlaydontpay
Can’t wait to spent $80 to buy a non-physical copy of a game I don’t actually own so I can boot it up and be heavily incentivized to pay more money if I want to experience key features like leveling up my player.
The future of gaming looks bright! #cfbplaydontpay
The CFB gaming community can do math. Don't gaslight us @EASPORTSCollege with this factsheet.
Let's take one example which is clearly implying that leveling up your coach is easier this year.
"Coaches now earn 25 Coach Points per level (previously 10)"
It is these kinds of claims (one of many) where they just assume you won't look into it.
If you don't want to read through the math here's the takeaway: EA is implying progression is easier by giving us 2.5x more points per level, while hoping we wouldn't notice they hiked the upgrade costs by roughly 2.6x - forcing an even longer grind to unlock the same perks.
🚨 Caution Math Ahead 🚨
In CFB 26, it cost 8 coach points per tier upgrade for Recruiter and 12 coach points per tier upgrade for Elite Recruiter (it worked the same for Motivator/Master Motivator and Tactician/Scheme Guru).
That means to unlock the entire recruiter/elite recruiter tree (or motivation/tactician), you'd need:
4 tiers each at 8 coach points per tier = 32. There are 8 position option upgrades in the regular recruiter archetype so that is:
32 * 8 = 256
Continuing on to elite recruiter each tier upgrade cost 12 coach points. Again 4 tiers each at 12 coach points per tier = 48. There are 8 position option upgrade in elite recruiter as well so that is:
48 * 8 = 384
So in CFB 26 to unlock the entire recruiter/elite recruiter tree (excluding the cost of unlocking the archetypes themselves which are dynamic and vary based on the order in which you unlock them) it totals:
256 + 384 = 640 coach points
At 10 coach points per level, that would take you exactly 64 coach levels in CFB 26 in order to unlock.
CFB 27 changed the numbers to make it not nearly as straightforward.
Now the first 7 position groups cost 15 (tier 1), 20 (tier 2), 25 (tier 3), 30 (tier 4) to upgrade in recruiter and the 8th kickers/punters cost 10 (tier 1), 10 (tier 2), 15 (tier 3), 15 (tier 4).
Fully unlocking any of the first 7 position groups (excluding K/P) would cost 15 + 20 + 25 + 30 = 90 coach points per position.
Including in kickers/punters it would cost 50 coach points (10 + 10 + 15 + 15).
So the math here is 90 * 7 = 630 and then add to that the K/P archetype at 50.
630 + 50 = 680 (to fully unlock recruiter in CFB 27)
Now moving on to Elite Recruiter (again removing the cost to unlock the archetype due to it being dynamic).
In CFB 27 Elite Recruiter tiers cost 25 (tier 1), 30 (tier 2), 35 (tier 3), 40 (tier 4). This applies to the first 7 position groups and then kickers and punters are slightly discounted at 15 (tier 1), 15 (tier 2), 20 (tier 3), 20 (tier 4).
Fully unlocking any of the first 7 position groups for elite recruiter (excluding K/P) would cost 25 + 30 + 35 + 40 = 130 coach points per position.
Including in kickers/punters it would cost 70 coach points (15 + 15 + 20 + 20).
So the math for elite recruiter is 130 * 7 = 910 plus the 70 for kickers/punters = 980
Now to take them both together we add the cost of fully unlocking recruiter (680) + the cost of fully unlocking elite recruiter (980) and you get 1660 coach points required.
You do however get 25 coach points per level in CFB 27 so to find out how many coach levels you need to fully unlock the entire tree is 1660/25. That equals 66.4.
In CFB 26 to fully unlock the entire recruiter/elite recruiter tree you'd need to get to coach level 64 + the dynamic cost is to unlock the archetypes which varies.
In CFB 27 to fully unlock the entire recruiter/elite recruiter tree you'd need to get to coach level 66.4 + the dynamic cost to unlock.
It is completelty disingenuous to share that you increased coach points per level by 2.5 times without also sharing that the overall cost to unlock things went up by even more than that.
You would have to win the national championship every single year for the next 150 years to max out your coach in College Football 27 for free. Or you can just pay EA ninety nine dollars and ninety nine cents.
I own this game and I'm not touching it until this gets fixed. It's Dynasty mode, single player, I'm not playing against anyone, and last year there was a setting for exactly this, Fast, Fastest, and now it's gone, deleted, replaced with a price tag on the same thing.
Road to Glory got it worse. Taking a created player from a 50 overall to an 80 overall runs about fifty bucks, against a coordinator who isn't even real.
A creator named @bordeauxyoutube, somebody who's defended this franchise for years, messaged an EA developer and asked if the fast settings got pulled on purpose. Got ghosted, not a yes, not a no, just nothing.
@NotTheExpertYT, another guy who's been fair to this franchise for years, called it heinous, and when your own defenders start reaching for that word, EA should be worried.
Who sits in a meeting and signs off on charging a grown man a hundred dollars to beat a computer faster?
I can't get there.
Ultimate Team, fine, that's always been pay to win, you know the deal. This one's different, call it what it is, a cover charge, a vig, and a valet fee, for a video game you play alone.
It's DISGUSTING, and the wildest part is they were betting nobody would actually sit down and do the math on a hundred and fifty years.

We really should be able to start a dynasty career as what ever level we want. Anything between level 1-100. Let us play how we want to play. Don’t charge us for impossible levels. #CFBPlayDontPay
Not only is almost every creator speaking out, but so is your entire community
I’m extremely proud with how everybody has come together #CFBPlayDontPay
