Family incidents remain fairly stable, although we have the highest number we have recorded at 93,091 incidents for the year ending March 2023.

The @CrimeStatsVic has released fresh crime statistics this morning for the year ending 31 December 2022. Key movements:
↔️ Criminal incident rate stable, up 0.3% to 5,306.6
↔️Recorded offences rate stable, up 0.5% to 7,332.9
⬆️Alleged offender rate up 6.0% to 2,803.5

Person victim report rate stable, up 0.4% to 3,070.8
Family incident rate stable, up 0.6% to 1,400.0

All but one of the headline metrics are stable, showing less than 1% movement from the previous year.

Family violence incidents are down from the peak in 2021, as are family violence-related offences.

So what is driving today's Victorian crime statistics?
The stats are still heavily influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Firstly, part of the driver of the overall decrease in offences, incidents and alleged offender incident is the decrease in breach of CHO direction offences.

We're still seeing below trend figures for most offence categories. Overall, these are the lowest criminal incident rates since September 2005 and lowest offence rates since September 2011.

Criminal incident rate ⬇️ 4.3% to 5,217.5
Criminal offence rate ⬇️ 5.0% to 7,196.4
Alleged offender rate ⬇️ 3.8% to 2,727.7
Person victim report rate ⬇️ 1.8% to 3,022.4
Family incident rate ⬇️ 1.8% to 1,387.9
