I hope to see this backed up on 30 Oct by maintaining funding homelessness services next year, followed by full cross government spending review to ensure future funding models support the promised mission approach and cross government strategy to end homelessness.
Thank you @Keir_Starmer for making new commitments on homelessness and rough sleeping in your conference speech. Looking forward to detail on commitments for veterans, care leavers and victims of domestic abuse who are amongst those most at risk of homelessness.
@jamesgoldstone@Victoria_Spratt Also over 21 if “vulnerable”. So could be removal of “vulnerable” condition, but we’ll need to wait for more info. Really pleased that homelessness and rough sleeping made it into the speech.
Great to hear @Keir_Starmer mention care leavers in his speech and set out his commitment to tackle homelessness - 1 in 3 face homelessness within 2 years of leaving care so this is a really welcome step.
Starmer also says that care leavers and victims of domestic abuse in housing need will also be housed. Does this mean taking them out of temporary accommodation and into permanent housing?
Great to be invited by @HomelessLink to attend this discussion with @PaulaBarkerMP, @dsnorthnorth, @emily4MK & sector leaders. There is much for @UKLabour to do to get homelessness & rough sleeping under control and it was positive to hear that the will is there.
This week I have been meeting with organisations across the homelessness sector including @HomelessLink@NHyouthcentre@crisis_uk & more, to discuss the scale of the problem we are facing and what needs to be done.
Sadly, the the extent of the situation is immense.
We convened a roundtable today with Co-Chair of the homelessness APPG @PaulaBarkerMP & Vice-Chairs @dsnorthnorth & @emily4MK
Conversation touched on the funding cliff edge, the importance of the Government's cross departmental strategy and the vital role of the 3rd sector.
Welcome to your new role @rushanaraali - with homelessness and rough sleeping growing rapidly there is lots to do. @HomelessLink and our members look forward to working with you
We're pleased to welcome @rushanaraali to the role of Parliamentary Under Secretary in @mhclg with responsibility for homelessness and rough sleeping
