An uplifting and informative public research day dedicated to brain health, dementia and ways to support wellbeing at every stage of life takes place in the Civic Theatre on Wednesday February 25th.
This event is hosted by The Alzheimer Society of Ireland and Dementia Research Network Ireland and is made possible with support from the Health Research Board.
Featuring leading researchers and clinicians from across Ireland, the event will share the latest evidence-based insights in a clear, accessible way and equip attendees with practical actions they can use in everyday life. Local dementia and community services will also be on hand to provide information, advice and resources, making this a valuable opportunity to connect with supports in your area.
Designed for the public, including people living with dementia and family carers, the event also welcomes researchers and healthcare professionals. Whether you’re looking to understand brain health, stay informed about new research, or connect with support in your community – there is something for everyone.
Above all, this engaging event reinforces a hopeful message: it is never too early or too late to look after our brain health! Brain Health & Dementia is a dementia-inclusive event, and quiet areas will be available.

We highly recommend the most recent Health and Wellbeing podcast in which the Director of the DSiDC Matthew Gibb alongside Roisin Nevin and Catherine Keogh Daly speak so eloquently on dementia, arts and health. https://t.co/tYRFgy2GO8

📢 One vital message is awareness & understanding that dementia can present in many ways and its not just about memory but often change to behaviour, language and movement - especially in a younger person @dementia_office@alzheimersocirl@drnire@TUH_Tallaght#notjustmemory

We are all entitled to dignity and respect, and it’s completely unacceptable for older people, who have contributed so much to society throughout their lives, to find themselves in the circumstances depicted in the programme. But shock and anger aren’t enough !! #rteinvestigates
The 'RTÉ Investigates' findings are a stark reminder of the long-standing abuse within our care system. We cannot allow this to continue. We urgently need robust safeguarding legislation and mandatory reporting inclusive of care partner. It's on all of us to stand together and demand change. Will you be at the Dáil next Thursday to help ignite this movement? After all, we will all grow old, or have a disability or need care.
Horrifying and heartbroken to watch this. Profit driven nursing homes, shame on you. Utterly disgraceful. No care. No dignity. No compassion. Unacceptable. A systemic review and change is urgently required. #RTEInvestigates@HSELive@MichealMartinTD@SimonHarrisTD
Very difficult to watch the lack of care ,dignity and compassion afforded to older adults in residential care. Care plans are of no benefit without adequate staffing to implement them #RTEInvestigates
