This is how an “arm’s-length” regulator loses public trust.
An independent AER hearing panel ruled that a public hearing was required for the Summit Mine 14 coal project near Grande Cache.
The company then lobbied both the AER CEO and the Energy Minister’s office to cancel it.
In August 2025, AER CEO Rob Morgan took the unprecedented step of overruling his own panel and cancelling the hearing.
Approvals were issued weeks later.
Environmental groups are now in court challenging the decision.
When formal public processes get shut down after industry lobbying, confidence in the regulator collapses. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli
Alberta:
Oil & Gas need to clean up their wells and facilities so landowners are not left with leaking wells and taxpayers are not paying the bill.

Danielle Smith’s new “integrated” driver’s licence takes the restrictive citizenship-ID tests from the U.S. SAVE Act and extends them to Alberta health care.
Long-time Albertans who’ve paid taxes, graduated from Canadian high schools, and stayed on provincial and federal voters lists for decades now face arbitrary, error-prone proof-of-citizenship hurdles just to renew a licence or keep their health coverage.
This is a clear overreach of provincial power and a denial of Charter mobility rights for citizens and permanent residents.
The “cure” is far worse than the unspecified “disease.” Under the Oakes Test, any infringement of Charter rights must be minimal and backed by clear evidence of a serious problem. Where’s the evidence?
Absurd that no other province wants this. Absurd that Alberta Vital Statistics databases aren’t being routinely checked for Alberta-born residents. Absurd that expired passports are rejected when the federal government’s own online renewal system accepts passports issued up to 15 years ago.
This isn’t protecting democracy. It’s creating new barriers for people who have already proven they belong here. #abpoli #CharterRights #Alberta #ForeverCanadian
Great question⁉️
Health care is provincial — and paid for by Albertans and Canadians through income taxes.
So where the hell is all our healthcare money going?
While wait times explode and services get cut for privatization and insiders.

This is fucking laughable. @ABDanielleSmith, you don't listen to nurses, doctors, teachers, or anyone else who challenges your agenda. You listen to your corporate donors. If you actually listened to frontline workers, you wouldn't spend so much time dismissing them. #UCP#abpoli
I, for one, am really looking forward to the massive tax rebate I get now that I'm forcefully being moved to private healthcare insurance.
What's that? No rebate and my taxes stay the same?
That's quite a scam the UCP's got going, isn't it?
Alberta’s new integrated driver’s licences and ID cards are creating chaos at registries across the province—and the whole process is flawed.
Rolled out on July 2, these cards now embed citizenship status and health-care numbers. The extra steps, stricter ID rules, and demands for documents many long-time residents simply don’t have (or that registries suddenly reject) are producing hour-long waits, multiple failed visits, and genuine hardship.
Long-time Canadian citizens with older or non-standard documents are being turned away. Demands for marriage certificates, repeated visits, and temporary 60-day cards are becoming routine. This administrative overbreadth and arbitrariness effectively denies valid residents—including citizens—basic ID.
Even if the core policy survives a constitutional test, a poorly implemented version like this can support arguments of unreasonableness or Charter overreach. Putting Albertans through these unnecessary requirements ranks among the most restrictive and poorly executed policies enacted against Canadians in any province. #abpoli
New integrated licences leading to longer waits at Alberta registries. A must read via CBC News - Calgary:

Israel is the only country in the world that can bomb 9 countries and invade 3 neighboring countries in one year; kill 100,000 people—including 25,000 children—in 1,000 days; displace nearly 6 million people in 3 countries; starve 2 million people in Gaza; violate Geneva and Vienna Conventions, international law, human rights, and state sovereignty; kidnap, rape and torture children and women; shoot, imprison and murdering; and still be perceived as the victim.
Calgary ER doctors Dr. Lang and Dr. McRae dissect the lunacy of Alberta healthcare policy. @EddyLang1
"Increasing privately paid health care has rarely, if ever, improved the efficiency of publicly provided health care"

"Canadians must stand up for universal public health care before it’s too late. We don’t want American-style health care. We don’t want insurance companies deciding who gets care or what they’ll pay for. Public, universal health care is a Canadian value. Let’s protect it." 🇨🇦👇
I will never forget this portrait composed of the faces of healthcare workers across the world who died from Covid. These are the heroes who should never be forgotten.
If I were PM, I would use the notwithstanding clause and forced these striking workers to accept the last agreement put forth by WestJet.
Just like I did with Alberta teachers and look at how happy they are to be teaching again!
