The amount of debauchery and incompetence across government is truly breathtaking.
It defies credulity.
Every time I am reviewing records - I often find myself so uncontrollably angry.
And sometimes - sometimes, I cannot help but question whether our country can be saved.
If you are a steady follower of mine, you are likely familiar with Owen - young man from my County of Kiambu.
Who literally is the very best son anyone can ever hope for.
Raised by grandparents - in truly humbling circumstances - was the very first in his entire family to be admitted into a university.
But he spent an entire year - running from one government office to the next. Begging the government's intervention so that he can realize, not just his dream of an education - but the dream of the entire family.
He got no help from anyone - his MP, MCAs,- all of them.
They let him down - the very future of our country.
This is one reality unfolding.
But there is another reality unfolding as well.
And that reality is that, KSH 2 billion in bursaries disappeared in the hands of our corrupt politicians.
Not my opinion. Not innuendo. Not conjecture.
That is the conclusion of the Auditor General.
I attach here a subset of those bursaries.
In one CDF, KSH 125 million in bursaries, cannot be accounted.
Not a single shilling.
The sample I have attached only shows CDFs that lost over KSH 50 million.
Alone. Because we don't have enough space to list all of them.
At the very same time - the county government of Kiambu - somehow is caught sending KSH 113 million - a duplicate payment to what has to be, criminal associates.
How do we know?
The auditor looks at the car license plates in a bucket of data that was used to obtain insurance.
It is discovered that in what appears to be a horribly planned heist - the county government cooked up "vehicles" to be used to determine the amount of insurance to be paid.
Duplicates - many, are found. Meaning - someone deliberately ran a scheme to defraud citizens by inflating the "covered" cars, and hence the associated cost of insurance.
Through this scheme - Kiambu County loses KSH 113 million. In just one transaction.
So - a young Kenyan - the first in his entire family to ever be admitted to university, spends a year begging politicians to serve him.
Invest in him.
But he get's no help. From anyone - and he misses a month and a half on learning.
He has to beg strangers for help.
And yet - @Wamatangi_ and those in government have the chutzpah to send a duplicate payment to their friends and associates.
And this is after stealing and diverting KSH 5.5 billion through illegal salaries in just three years.
I have told you before that, when the average citizen cannot discern any meaningful difference between his government, and a thug on the street, that society is already a banana republic.
To Owen - what is the difference between our rotten political class and a thief on the street?
Nothing. No difference. Because they are both using intimidation, treachery, and a monopoly of violence to fleece citizens.
Now - take this situation and extrapolate across the country.
What you end up with is, a failed state. A Haiti in the making.
Because citizens have lost all trust in their government.
@wmnjoya I also wonder if you will be able to see statistically that Kenyans thinking is improving over time? Just wondering if you have some means of measuring all incoming comments on your sites?
And how will the ordinary kenyan also see that our thinking has improved?
@wmnjoya I wonder for instance how you intend to encourage the work of thinking by actively sifting the commentary section on your website? If someone writes something that they think is smart, but dont get feedback how will
they learn?
@wmnjoya Hi Prof Njoya
While I understand your thinking I'm just wondering what effect you hope to achieve by 'secluding' your well-researched and beautifully crafted articles to your website and youtube. I love your writing. May it always be accessible to the public mind.
Ksh 32M @WorldBank funds for Busia meant for development was siphoned from CBK through proxy accounts and looted by corrupt County officials.
Devolution is for service, not theft.
Devolution must serve the people, not line pockets.
I will not relent in demanding accountability! ✊

Day One of the 5th Civic Space Protection Summit #CSPS5 in Nakuru was a clarion call that the struggle for freedom is far from over. We honoured those brutalized and killed by state violence, then turned pain into power through art, music, and spoken word. The youth stood tall; fearless, creative, and unyielding, reclaiming civic and democratic space in the face of shrinking freedoms.
I reminded the summit that Chapter Seven of our Constitution is non-negotiable. Without free, fair, and transparent elections, there can be no democracy, no justice, and no civic space.
I salute the youth and human rights defenders for their defiance and courage. The fight for Kenya’s soul is here and now, we will not be silenced.

The Constitution is clear: reproductive health, including abortion, is a right. Government inaction is costing lives. #ImplementKatiba2010#KatibaIkoTuSawa
Nearly 800,000 induced abortions occurred in Kenya in 2023 yet safe, quality post-abortion care remains inaccessible. Enshrined in our constitution is the right to health and dignity. We must #ImplementKatiba2010.
