 This disproportionately harms historically Black communities like Boxtown, exacerbating environmental injustice.We demand xAI take immediate action to protect public health and align its mission of advancing human progress with sustainability:

Cease Unpermitted Operations: Shut down all unpermitted generators until air permits are secured from the Shelby County Health Department, ensuring compliance with the Clean Air Act.

Install Pollution Controls: Retrofit all turbines with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems and oxidation catalysts to reduce NOx and formaldehyde emissions by up to 90%.

Adopt Innovative Solutions: Pilot an underground generator facility to contain emissions, paired with Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems to capture waste heat for energy storage and Flue Gas Recirculation (FGR) to cut NOx by 20–50%.

Transition to Clean Energy: Partner with the Tennessee Valley Authority to source 50% renewable energy for Colossus by 2027, following the lead of carbon-neutral data centers.

Invest in Community Health: Fund a $5 million South Memphis Environmental Justice Fund for air quality monitoring, health screenings, and green infrastructure to reduce PM2.5 by 5–7%.

The Southern Environmental Law Center’s appeal and the NAACP’s planned lawsuit highlight the urgency of this issue.

xAI must act swiftly to prevent further harm and set a global standard for sustainable AI infrastructure.
