It's one of those things that's hard to articulate... obviously tech is amazing (and even back in the day we still had tech - radio, cassettes, vcr, electricity, ac, video game consoles, etc) but I used to go on adventures everyday, play in the woods, play in the creeks, play in the dirt, swim in lakes, go to my local farms and play/help the farmers, etc - didn't even have a cellphone or laptop till I was older, only a family computer. I genuinely wanted to grow up to be a farmer, but as you grow up things change, and even the countryside becomes overrun with things that destroy how it was and the past becomes a place you can't really return to, even by visiting the same place. I think this was one of the things Tolkien was trying to articulate as well with the Hobbits returning to the Shire they missed, only to have it not be the same place they left. Can't help but be nostalgic for a place and time you can't go back to 😞
@nerissa_en@paw_chie You are so for real for this. I used to disappear into the woods after school for hours and just play in the creeks and ferns. That’s why as an adult I’ve really gotten into hiking and camping! Grand Marais is one of my favorite spots on the planet for this.
