Purple wasn’t chosen randomly.
It’s symbolic and practical.

💜 Meaning behind the color 💜
Purple is often associated with -
•Courage & strength → reflecting what people with lupus deal with daily.
•Hope & resilience → important for a chronic, often unpredictable illness.
•Awareness of invisible illness → lupus symptoms aren’t always outwardly visible.

🎗️ How it became the lupus color -
Organizations like the Lupus Foundation of America adopted purple as their official awareness color, and it spread globally through campaigns, fundraising events, and World Lupus Day.

🌍 Why purple works well -
It’s distinctive (not heavily used by many other major health causes).
It stands out in campaigns, ribbons, and lighting landmarks.
It conveys a mix of seriousness and hope, which fits lupus awareness messaging.

Bottom line:
Purple became the lupus color because it captures both the difficulty of the disease and the strength of the people living with it, and advocacy groups made it consistent worldwide.
