If a foetus is not "ensouled", continuing a pregnancy despite a known severe issue like down syndrome is equivalent to taking a baseball bat and going out of your way to cripple/turn into a semi vegetable one of your healthy kids.
That is why calling people who care about...
@schwopi__ Ig for guys who take the same "throw shit and see what sticks" to it it is like that. Refuse to get apps etc. because it narrows it down to only that.
Hardly the only way to go about things in person. Wouldn't want to put someone I'm interested in on the spot
We're not terribly prone to creating the most extreme iteration of ideologies. Prussian semi constitutionalism hardly was extremist. The DDR was a foreign imposition and required the Stasi and tons of informants to keep people in line, nevertheless moderate by eastern block...
German autism makes them natural extremists. Whatever 'the thing' is in any given historical era - Protestant Christianity, imperialism, nationalism, national socialism, environmentalism, multiculturalism - they always conclude that if a thing is good, they must goodthingmax until the blood flows. Deep in the German volkgeist is an urge to turn every ideology into a war crime.
works if you force a comparison between the third Reich and fascist states but Hitler himself said that fascism does not quite deserve to be called a worldview. So it is comparing apples to oranges. But ok, let's say we grant that. So Germans faced with extreme circumstances...
@EuropaAdAstra pre war financial cushion and depleted military stocks. Beyond that, better infrastructure will make us hurt less the next time we pivot (if it happens) while Russia would be stuck selling at discount rates to China etc. again.
The pipeline didn't create a single point of failure because we never reaped the benefits of more cheap gas via it. We were dependent on Russian gas because of previous pipelines and strangling that supply has been more consequential.
Since then we've become dependent on more...
The AfD is still kvetching about the nord stream pipeline.
Building it & becoming dependent on RU gas imports AT THE SAME TIME AS RUSSIA HAD ALREADY INVADED EUROPE AND EUROPE BEING MILITARILY DEPENDENT ON THE US was complete madness. It backfired monumentally as expected.
Does it really matter who blew it up? No. The real issue is that this pipeline created a single point of failure for the German and wider European economy while it was already clear that many state actors would be motivated to weaponize it, with Germany having absolutely no credible way of doing anything about it. Only someone in complete denial about the geostrategic realities Germany found itself in during that time, or someone deliberately trying to weaken us could have thought this was a good idea. How about you call for an inquiry how this project that from the very beginning posed a huge risk for German and European security and sovereignty was given the green light instead?
@EuropaAdAstra Waiting around for either Ukraine or Russia to break will delay rearmament, energy policy aside. Being a non dependent importer of gas again would also make it financially easier to rearm and give us leverage over Russia. It will take years for them to rebuild their...
@EuropaAdAstra of our actual needs and shouldn't be sustained permanently. The higher prices are seriously undermining the fact that we are the economic engine at the heart of europe.
@EuropaAdAstra of our drive to invest in renewables. It created redundancies in the grid that made it exceedingly unlikely we'll ever face a situation like Spain just because one point failed. Rn we're switching dependence on Russia to dependance on LNG from America which still falls short...
