The Scarlet Angels kicked off the holiday season in festive style as they performed at the Brooklyn Heights Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 29. Their music added warmth and celebration to a wonderful community tradition.

Gilles-Sweet students showcased their creative sides at this year’s Poetry Café on Friday, Nov. 14, sharing poetry they wrote ranging from structured formats to free verse. ✍️ Parents and families were invited to celebrate their children’s hard work in their classroom, making the event a meaningful moment for families and teachers alike. 🎤
"We find that the kids really enjoy expressing themselves, while we love getting to see their more creative side," Third Grade Teacher Mrs. Arbogast explained. "It’s just a great opportunity for us to nurture a stronger sense of community throughout the building.”

Mr. Robinson's Environmental Science students created animal storybooks for Kindergarteners, teaching about food webs through creative tales! They highlighted misunderstood creatures like spiders & bats with coloring pages & videos. Thanks to Molly Clay for help!
3rd & 5th graders combined storytelling & STEM last week! After reading Our Table by Peter H. Reynolds, students built mini tables using dominoes & craft sticks, then calculated perimeter & area. A perfect blend of creativity, teamwork & gratitude!
In November, students participated in lessons with videos, stories, and activities led by Mrs. Catalano. Students identified what they are grateful for and each made a leaf to contribute to whole-class gratitude wreaths. We have a lot to be thankful for at Thoreau Park!
Future leaders in action! 🌟 Fifteen sixth graders from Lewis F. Mayer Middle School joined students from five other schools at the Hurricane Leadership Academy at Brooklyn Middle School on November 13, 2025.
The event focused on empowering students to lead with kindness, responsibility, and service - building confidence, communication, and teamwork along the way.
"We're grateful to Superintendent Ted Caleris and Brooklyn City Schools for including our sixth graders in this hands-on leadership experience," Superintendent Keith Ahearn said. "Students were encouraged to use their skills to grow as leaders and make a positive impact on their school and community."
