@MsVanBalkom @JennyVo15 Crutches are only good for a short time. Use them too long & the legs and arms become weak. Same with learning scaffolds/ accommodations. If we provide them too long, students become too dependent & don't use their own muscles to do the hard work. #SeidlitzEdChat

A pre-production phase when ELs are receptive learners and great communicators in THEIR native language or via using alternate modalities.

Elements of teaching vocabulary:
1. Student-friendly definition
2. Playing with words using a scenario + image connected to the scenario
3. Provide a sentence frame WITH the target word to scaffold using the target word
