Thanks to all who came down last week, we are looking forward to continuing to build partnerships and relationships with our health and VCSE partners to improve cancer outcomes for our local fishing community!
Our friends @thefishmish in North Shields have launched a three-year partnership with @macmillancancer to improve cancer awareness among the fishing community.

Minimising how much alcohol you drink, is a way of reducing your risk of getting cancer. If you need support with this, you can find support locally through this link: https://t.co/phQkYvhCKs 🩵💚🩵
Fishermen like John often delay seeking healthcare, putting themselves at risk. Talk to us to find out how @FishMishSeaFit health checks at docks help catch conditions early, while @FishMishCAware raises cancer awareness 💙https://t.co/cha6vxrPxo

An afternoon in North Shields Quay with our partners Fisherman’s Mission, working together to tackle some of the poor cancer outcomes experienced by fishing communities in North East. Complex issues: socioeconomic, long irregular working hours, transient workforce, tobacco/alcohol use, stoicism, need to keep earning, all collide to mean cancer outcomes are appalling. We’re working with champions from the community, and Macmillan professionals across primary and secondary care to develop and test solutions that work.
It was a pleasure to host Gemma Peters (Macmillan Cancer Support CEO), Steven Macintosh (MCS Chief Partnerships Officer) and Karen Watson (MCS Chief Finance & Operations Officer) in North Shields today. Thank you for your support.

There's some incredible work going on down on North Shields Fish Quay where @FishMishCAware are taking the cancer awareness message to our hardworking fishing community, in partnership with @macmillancancer. You can read lots more about the project here https://t.co/te3FDSZoGn
It was lovely to have Elle in our Cafe this morning promoting the @FishMishCAware project and the work they are doing with the local fishermen. They are doing an amazing job of raising awareness of signs and symptoms of #cancer and what support is available 💙

@KhourySahila Thinking about the explosion in cases of colorectal cancer in under 50s, the evidence is saying that this is strongly linked to lifestyle factors such as diet, alcohol consumption and physical activity, so its important to raise awareness about the risk factors for bowel cancer!
🚨 April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month! 🚨 Did you know bowel cancer, also known as colorectal cancer, affects the colon and rectum? It's the 4th most common cancer in the UK, but early screening can make a huge difference! Learn more about screening and its benefits below.
@KhourySahila Hi Sahila, thanks for pointing this out about screening in England! We found this article from CRUK useful to signpost people to, to help advocate for themselves, if they are worried about bowel symptoms and organise a GP appointment : https://t.co/4TEaAiZzyd
🚽 Have you noticed something new on your loo roll packaging? Thanks to innovative campaigns, UK supermarkets and toilet roll brands are adding bowel cancer symptoms. This small change could make a big difference in raising awareness. Check your next pack! 🧻💡
