@leehaber@ThomasDigby1 The greatest failure re VAC was the elimination of a renovation option from consideration. Instead of rushing to spend $175M, there are viable options to deliver a 50M pool faster/cheaper/better.
@Bill_McCreery@leehaber@ThomasDigby1 Serious study, you ask? ๐คฃ
Aquatics is my life passion. I've read/watched everything on Vac/Kits, w/ empathy + dismay.
I keep thinking:
- Is $100M+ saved by renovating VAC useful?
- Can a workshop bring fresh ideas around strategy/budget improve a REFM process?
I'm here to help
@leehaber@ThomasDigby1 Spot on, and I'd like to recruit you to a future "Vancouver Aquatics Reimagined" workshop. ๐คฟ
Diving gear recommended. Bring snacks.

@seanorr - Regarding #10 (EHT fairness), I fully support the adjustment to allow smaller builders (ie @Lanefab ) equal treatment. Regarding financials, though, we need transparency in total #s of units/revenue.
@ThomasDigby1@leehaber Ummm.... Newton is getting a full 50m pool plus a new library, gym, and community centre for $310M. Harry Jerome got an NHL arena, 25m pool, gym, skate park and more for $230M.
@Lanefab@seanorr Thanka for your perspective, and I respect what your doing
I auppose I was apeaking of those kux strata units/buildings allowed to linger for far too long.
It all seems such a mess.
@Lam_mour@MarksGonePublic Far more suffer than those 'having fun by taking risks' that you support. I mean, that's Mark's entire message...
For first responders, volunteers, and families, these arenโt statistics. Every crash leaves people carrying the aftermath long after the road is cleared. "
@seanorr@Lanefab This proposal provides fairness, but staff needs to dig into ways to unlock the extreme high-end of units that are a drag on the market, and restricting much needed city revenue.
@seanorr@Lanefab Yea - I'm listening and grumpy. The report/CHMC #s are suspect already, lacking compliance audits, etc; and while smaller projects deserve fairness it's the 85% of VNI condos over $1M that will never be part of "affordable" equation that deserve review.
