First Pacific spiny lumpsucker I’ve seen in Alaska! This absolute *unit* was about 8cm long at 20 ft in Kasitsna Bay, AK on a scientific training dive

PSA: If it has a crotch zipper, it is NOT unisex gear.

Heading to Kasistna Bay Lab for scientific diving with @jarterj @DittrichMuriel !! It is snowing. #UAF #CFOS #science

#AFS

[Alex @Fishy_Science_]

To all those fishy folks who actually follow me: I will NOT be presenting in person on November 10th at the AFS Baltimore conference. I switched my talk to virtual months ago. I guess the switch didn’t stick for some reason. I am still in Alaska. Not going to Baltimore.

[Alex @Fishy_Science_]

I did prepare a virtual presentation. It will be uploaded eventually, subject to the whims of the humans and technology in charge.

Frankenfish complete. Only a little messed up, mostly still looks like a fish. #blackcodfriday

[Alex @Fishy_Science_]

I’m celebrating #blackcodfriday a day late. Gonna bake this guy and reconstruct some bones! In my own home! #covid #fishy #sorryPaul

[Alex @Fishy_Science_]

#blackcodfriday has, for better or worse, continued well into Sunday. The bones now smell not great.

[Alex @Fishy_Science_]

Apparently everything needs to dry before it gets glued back together. Hopefully I can reconstruct the black cod and not create a frankenfish. #blackcodfriday

[Alex @Fishy_Science_]

The power went out. Fish dissection in the dark #blackcodfriday

[Alex @Fishy_Science_]

@naturerachel I’ll be debatably qualified in about a year and a half!

[Alex @Fishy_Science_]

It snowed quite a bit. And now it’s raining on top of the snow, ruining it.

[Alex @Fishy_Science_]

I woke up with a black eye (thank you mosquitos), I smell like fish, and I haven’t showered in four days. #fieldworkjoys

[Alex @Fishy_Science_]

This deer, on the other hand, is wearing his mask much better.

[Alex @Fishy_Science_]

This Chinook salmon is wearing his mast incorrectly- it’s not covering his nares.

[Alex @Fishy_Science_]

Once again, the cat figured out that I’m leaving, and he is less than enthused.
