🙃To explain how accurate @maximilian_ is about how big studios sometimes slow game development down (compared to @expedition33's small scale) here’s what it CAN take to add simple change to a main character at a mega studio:
1. Art Director requests new shoulder pad and half cape on main character, after I finish her.
2. Meeting with Rigging to check skeleton compatibility. They ask me to make a proxy model.
3. Animation team flags issues with existing animations - now keyframes need tweaking or re-baking to fit new shoulder pad. Meeting to discuss.
4. Tech Anim request a meeting. need to reschedule new time to add cloth sim, and make it work across future skins.
5. Design request a pause. New shoulder pad means new hitbox collisions needed for melee. Eventually they agree its okay in meeting.
6. QA has to regression test the whole thing across gameplay and cutscenes. Make sure it doesn't look stupid from all scenarios.
7. Cinematics request meeting with me and Art Director. They're worried it’ll block the character’s face in key scenes. Ask me to make it smaller.
8. Narrative/Localization double-check if any lines reference the old outfit.
9. I finally finish the cape and shoulder pad - looks good. Cloth simulation and everything.
10. Marketing BLOCKS IT - because not enough time to get it into the upcoming pre-rendered Game Awards trailer.
