In the comic Supergirl towers over Ruthye. In the movie they are closer to the same size and it loses that visual of a protector.

But Hollywood ran the idea of strong female characters into the ground to the point these movies struggle with the genre's audience while not being able to find a female audience

But the constant need for Hollywood to shoehorn strong female characters into a lot of movies over the past few years and pump out constant female led action films... Hurt not only Supergirl but Furiosa and Ballerina.
