Year 12 have been looking at mass transport and the factors which affect rate of transpiration. Today they have been using a potometer to measure the effect of wind and light intensity on the rate of transpiration in a plant.
Mr Easton's inspirational scientist is Henrietta Swan Leavitt. In 1912 she made a discovery that was to become one of the cornerstones of modern astronomical science ( see photo caption for more info!)
Mrs McSorley's inspirational female in science is Henrietta Lacks. (Read the caption for this interesting story which highlights the importance of ethics, consent and acknowledging racial injustices)
Dr Ouvry’s inspirational scientist is Dr Lynn Margulis (1938-2011) who proposed that eukaryotic cells have evolved from a symbiotic merger with bacteria, which became the mitochondria. It took her many years to prove her theory to peers which is now widely accepted.
