Qualified for the @_NYCIS_ playing this very silly red deck in today's Value Vintage (@30DollarMTG) open. The format feels wide open and underexplored. Thanks @Jenn_the_Judge for another weird format event!
Hi, my name is Collin.
I started Taikun with $127 I'd saved, back on Christmas Eve, 2009.
It was a web hosting company.
Bought a domain. Got a reseller hosting license.
Posted a Craigslist ad offering free websites to anyone who paid for the hosting.
It was just me for years. No team. Nobody to hand anything off to.
Kept going anyway.
Took over a decade to figure out what the business was actually supposed to be.
Landed on paid media for DTC and ecommerce brands.
Took 11 years before I made $100,000 in a single year for the first time.
Taikun now manages over $500M in ad spend across Meta, Google, and YouTube.
$90M of that was Meta spend in the first five months of this year alone.
Team went from a dozen people to 30+ in 6 months.
Scaling to 70 by the end of the year.
We're taking paid media to a whole new level.
Nice to meet you 👋
@zippkode Monopoly Go makes like $100m
They are actually downplaying the growth of digital and Monopoly Go basically accounts for all the margin growth they attribute to UB.
Don’t tell me… despite more than doubling their <strike>player</strike> customer base since COVID did their stock laughingly under-perform the last five years also? Like if you invested $1000 you might make like… $16 over five years or something. (I get this is just imaginary)
imagine a company that would:
> start selling direct to max profits and ignore local retailers who supported for decades
> scale back on areas they had led in while leaving room for innovative competitors to fill the gaps
> point to data to justify unpopular decisions
haha ha
@CadenChampion@LiquidJeans Baleful Strix is better than every fair creature in the format. Why would you ever try to flip a Delver or cheat out an Angler or even make the Initiative (the opponent will immediately take)?
It’s always insane to me that it’s right to pass up Wilt on LAL 60s (Baylor is one of the best picks in the whole game); just like it’s right to take Luca over LBJ on LAL despite all the LBJs being about the same.
@nachobrr@sitisiki Multiple Japanese players said they were offended by the image. I have a hard time believing that the non-Magic playing Xerox machine operator who made the card art didn’t think he was the cleverest guy in the room when choosing this art. The deniability is half the fun!
@andrebttx@LiquidJeans Yeah the set legality is correct instead of just having to follow Gavin on X. Obvious. But given the lack of intent (or thought behind this product) all the cards should be banned. I personally don’t think Strix invalidating half the strategies in Pauper for a month is +game play
@andrebttx@LiquidJeans At least they did it on purpose. The correct play would have been to make Zeta legal (done) and then ban all the cards, not just two. If people ask why Serra Angel is on the banned list tell them it’s because a BK hipster with a Xerox machine didn’t think about it hard enough.
@Drum_Bum_1021 If your opponent has mana denial do not expose Forest unless you’re doing the priority trick with Tithe and Heath; or the turn you are casting Blessing for the first time. It’s better to miss a land drop in many cases.
@AndresM89418884@m_evans10@GavinVerhey@fireshoes First of all that’s just not true. The NY scene (that Mike is a pillar of) is vibrant and diverse and draws hundreds of players per month. Secondly why would you ever work to get a fast Terror if Strix were waiting on the other side? This is such a screwup design-wise
