The latest @mbrrace report published today reveals ongoing maternal health disparities in the UK. Black women are 2.3 times more likely to die in pregnancy or shortly after. While some progress is seen, we still have a long way to go for true equity.
More than half (54%, 458) of black women had problems with healthcare professionals during their pregnancy, while 28% (237) reported being discriminated against, in a survey of maternity services in the UK by @fivexmore

Black women face disproportionately higher risks during pregnancy and childbirth according to a report out today. More than half said they faced challenges with healthcare professionals, and more than a quarter reported experiencing discrimination.
Gargy Patel report.
Black women are subjected to racist treatment on NHS maternity wards, @wesstreeting says as a new report by @fivexmore tomorrow details the experiences of hundreds of women. The Sunday Times has the preview:

This new report builds on our landmark findings from 2022. Since then, we’ve seen announcements, taskforces, TV storylines, and even a government inquiry. But the truth is, many women are still having the same harmful experiences.
That’s why this data matters. #fivexmore #blackmereport

Only 20% of women said they were told how to make a complaint. Only 8% went on to do so. The system isn’t just broken it’s hard to challenge and without clear routes for to address this, trust is lost. #fivexmore#blackmereport
Today, we launch a co-produced resource to help parents spot signs of jaundice in babies with dark skin tones. It will be shared with every maternity & neonatal service across the country and across primary care.
You can download it here: https://t.co/HmvyfHJyIx
Do you know how to spot Jaundice on Black babies?
We’ve been working behind the scenes on a new resource designed to support and empower Black and Brown parents and it’s finally here.
In collaboration with Bliss, NHS Medway, Kent and Medway Neonatal Network, NHS England South East, and the Race & Health Observatory, we’re proud to share ‘A Parent’s Guide to Recognising Jaundice in Black and Brown Babies’.
