We are sceptical of the proposal to regulate managing agents as the freeholder and managing agents lobbies are vigorously urging it. They would not support the policy if they thought for a second it would threaten their business model of corruption.
@KarlTurnerMP@HarryScoffin@UKLabour@AngelaRayner@andyburnham If Burnham doesn't get this done, I'll simply never vote Labour again. Moreover, I'll cite this failure for the rest of my life as to why Labour has 0 claim to the moral high ground. Labour should not be allying itself with rentiers.
@KarlTurnerMP@UKLabour@AngelaRayner@andyburnham Should happen but won’t. Way too many within Labour have vested interests and all the talk before the election about scrapping leasehold has turned out to be yet another lie. Rayner and Co get rich while we all get ripped off. That’s the Labour way.
@KarlTurnerMP@UKLabour@AngelaRayner@andyburnham Thanks Karl!
The smart money is on Andy going where Keir failed: freeing leaseholders through a fearless Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill that delivers a major cost-of-living win, gives people rightful control of their homes, and gets the property market moving again.
Another MP - one who vidibly backed Burnham’s leadership challenge to Starmer - publicly backs call to scrap confiscatory leasehold law. End Leasehold now!
I just saw a tweet from Raynor re the water industry and she had restricted replies. It’s not looking good in terms of engaging with voters. I don’t remember her engaging much with leaseholders when she was in charge of the much watered down draft leasehold reform bill either.
@andyburnham Please don’t leave leaseholders hanging, Andy.
Your predecessor put Big Money interests before the people and betrayed the Labour manifesto promise to end leasehold for good. https://t.co/eHSZBsBUEX
This needs sorting, asap. Tories had a go though @michaelgove good offices but bottled it in the end because of the lobbying from fat cats landlords. We must hear the calls from the many thousands of people stuck in the nightmare of the leasehold trap. @AngelaRayner is on it now.
@endleaseholduk@SteveReedMP@mtpennycook@AngelaRayner@andyburnham I was elated when @AngelaRayner returned to her former role but for none of them to have even mentioned leasehold once is bizzare and utterly soul crushing. My hope that they're waiting until there's something concrete to announce is wearing thin.
It's the hope that kills you.
SW1 completely missed that leasehold was the canary in the coal mine for Starmer.
Would he fold to weird ECHR legalism and vested interests?
Or redistribute power and wealth in a historic Labour victory?
Ending leasehold will be the ultimate test of crusading PM @andyburnham.
Please don’t leave leaseholders hanging, Andy.

@Cosbloodymic@SteveReedMP@mtpennycook@AngelaRayner@andyburnham Yes, it’s as if there is no leasehold or building safety crisis. It’s all in our heads. The sole purpose of our existence is to work and transfer our earnings to the freehold overlords and to the corrupt utility companies. The UK is foooked. One giant sewage island.
I asked GPT what it thought of me. Much of it was surprisingly accurate and delivered in a kind and considerate way. This stood out though regarding my bitter leasehold experience.
"The leasehold battle is real, grotesque and profoundly damaging. But it has also colonised too much of your identity. You’re no longer merely Chris who owns a flat caught in an abusive system; at times you become the designated witness to everything wrong with leasehold. That gives suffering meaning, but also keeps you psychologically tethered to the very organisation you want freedom from. Irwell Valley occupies far more of your inner life than it has any right to."
That’s the everyday damage.
