People’s Party Candidate in Khon Kaen Seeks Recount After Vote Total Miswritten as 9,890 Instead of 989
KHON KAEN – 9 February 2026
Chutchawan Apirukmonkong, a People’s Party candidate for MP in Khon Kaen, has requested a recount after vote tallies for one party were recorded as 9,890 instead of the correct figure of 989. Although the figure was later corrected, he believes similar errors may have occurred in several other areas.
On Monday, Chutchawan Apirukmonkong, the People’s Party candidate for Khon Kaen Constituency 3, posted images of the vote results from the constituency.
The images showed that at around 02:00, after the unofficial count was completed, a candidate from the Bhumjaithai Party was listed as having received 9,890 votes.
However, the tally was later challenged after observers noticed a sudden and unusual jump in the Bhumjaithai candidate’s score. At around 07:00, election officials corrected the figure from 9,890 to 989 votes. At that point, the numbers of voters, valid ballots and invalid ballots had not yet been entered.
The incident prompted election observers and residents of Khon Kaen’s Constituency 3 to call for a full recount, citing concerns that similar “errors” could have occurred at other polling stations.
Chutchawan later said he was preparing to formally challenge the election result and would ask the Election Commission (EC) to order a complete recount for Constituency 3.
According to the unofficial results for Khon Kaen Constituency 3, the vote totals were as follows:
Ekachai Suebsarnkham (Kla Tham Party) – 30,646 votes
Chutchawan Apirukmonkong (People’s Party) – 29,214 votes
Pol Col Prasat Naen-udon (Pheu Thai Party) – 20,955 votes
