Many people around the world have commented on the issue of localization interfering with content. It's an incredible honor to hear people say they want to enjoy Japanese content in as original an expression as possible. This may not be an issue that can be solved by politics alone, but many Japanese people are not even aware of this issue, so I would like to raise awareness. I also want to work to ensure that original expressions, not only from Japan but from all over the world, are respected.
The current definition of "child pornography" in Japan is clearly limited to "works involving real victims" and does not include fictional works, but there are many activist groups and politicians who want to expand this to the world of fiction, and there is a constant struggle over this. If this were to be changed, it would have a huge chilling effect on Japanese-originated creative works. This is an important line that must be maintained.
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
