Flagella are able to work even when some proteins that build them are changed, although not as efficient #DGSOrganelleVote2017

A flagellum's direction of rotation is up to a molecular switch. #DGSOrganelleVote2017

Every second, flagella can propel a cell 60 times the length of the cell. Cheetahs only go 25 body lengths/second! #DGSOrganelleVote2017

Flagella are driven by a biological engine driven by the flow of protons across the cell membrane! #DGSOrganelleVote2017

[Fred The Flagellum @FlagellumFred]

Flagella cannot be seen in a normal light microscope, so scientists need to use staining techniques to visualize them #DGSOrganelleVote2017

[Fred The Flagellum @FlagellumFred]

Extremely cold temperatures will cause flagella to disassemble and stop working #DGSOrganelleVote2017

[Fred The Flagellum @FlagellumFred]

Acidic pH will cause flagella to fall off 😅 #DGSOrganelleVote2017

[Fred The Flagellum @FlagellumFred]

Without flagella, reproduction could not occur #DGSOrganelleVote2017

[Fred The Flagellum @FlagellumFred]

If a flagellum breaks, the cell cannot move but the flagellum can grow back! #DGSOrganelleVote2017

[Fred The Flagellum @FlagellumFred]

Flagella tend to be 2-3 times the length of the cell #lanky #DGSOrganelleVote2017

[Fred The Flagellum @FlagellumFred]

Flagella can also be used to sense temperature and chemicals outside the cell! #DGSOrganelleVote2017

In Latin, flagellum means whip #DGSOrganelleVote2017

Flagella are made of the protein flagellin💪💪 #whoneedsproteinshakes #DGSOrganelleVote2017

Finally, eukaryotic flagella are found in plant and animal cells. They rotate more freely than bacterial flagella. 🔄 #DGSOrganelleVote2017

[Fred The Flagellum @FlagellumFred]

Archaeal flagella are similar to bacterial, although r found in environments and r very reliant on ether lipids. #DGSOrganelleVote2017

[Fred The Flagellum @FlagellumFred]

Bacterial flagella have rotary motors which either turn clockwise or counterclockwise. They provide motility. 🤸🏻‍♂️ #DGSOrganelleVote2017

[Fred The Flagellum @FlagellumFred]

There's three types of flagella: bacterial, archaeal, and eukaryotic. #DGSOrganelleVote2017

[Fred The Flagellum @FlagellumFred]

Flagella are found in most green algae, although not in any red algae. Guess I know what my favorite color is. #DGSOrganelleVote2017

Guess I gotta pick on someone my own size😕 #ciliaareshortandweird #DGSOrganelleVote2017
