News from the NCAA: Memphis is hit with two-year probation + fine for academic fraud. An academic counselor paid softball players to do coursework and/or provide test/quiz answers for men's basketball players.
A 10-year show cause for the counselor: https://t.co/S1aJTPJypi
New in court: The Pac-12 and Mountain West did not resolve their $150m+ poaching fees case in mediation, so it'll continue in court.
MW has filed a motion to dismiss the Pac-12's case, that'll come up in September.
As I told Brian, if UNC tennis player Reese Brantmeier is successful in her case challenging the NCAA’s limits on athletes accepting prize money we may soon see athletes in other sports also receiving event prize money.
Think bowl games, the CFP, and basketball tournaments.
@MarkDJ1971 None of the three bring any TV markets or athletic budgets that make them attractive. Lake Charles is a cute town but that school could wind up being merged soon. I am spending the weekend in Nac and like the school. Not ready. TSU was D2 like yesterday in the middle of nowhere.
@tarletonlover@theotherJerryLU@SSN_Flames Uh, are you claiming Stephenville is in North & Central Texas? Take a look around and tell me again that you are not in the middle of nowhere West Texas.
@theotherJerryLU@SSN_Flames Dude, McNeese is tiny and broke. It brings NOTHING to the table. Tarleton is in West TX no man's land but has been riding the A&M pipeline that is slowly being diverted to other schools. SFA is just now getting the UT funds coming their way. They are several years away.
Now that college 🏀 teams have a new expense (roster payroll), mid-major programs have a decision to make.
Do they keep spending relatively large amounts on coaches?
Or do they shift some of that spend to the roster?
Looking at Euroleague teams, it says shift to the roster.
@SSN_Flames Once again, neither school is a viable candidate. SFA is a better candidate but that is like claiming to be world's tallest ant. SFA is just getting their UT System funds. McNeese has no students or budget. Tarleton is nowhere close to either SHSU or NMSU. This is all non-sense.
