Olakunle Churchill and Rosy Meurer Reportedly Part Ways
The marriage between businessman Olakunle Churchill and Nollywood actress Rosy Meurer has reportedly come to an end.
Meurer filed for divorce on Monday, April 21, 2026, effectively ending their union, which began in 2021. The couple, who share two children, have also sparked further speculation after unfollowing each other on Instagram.
Their reported separation marks a significant turn in a relationship that has long been in the public spotlight. Meurer was previously accused by actress Tonto Dikeh, Churchill’s ex-wife, of being involved with him before his 2017 divorce. Churchill and Meurer later tied the knot in 2021 and went on to have two children together.
The development comes shortly after Churchill and Dikeh were seen together at their son’s birthday celebration—an appearance that suggested a possible easing of tensions between the former couple.
As of now, neither Churchill nor Meurer has publicly addressed the situation or confirmed the reason for the split. However, Churchill shared a cryptic message on social media, stating that if faced with a choice between anyone else and his children, he would always choose his kids.

History of Assassination Attempts on Trump
Inside the Shocking Timeline of Assassination Attempts on Donald Trump — From Rally Gunfire to Foiled Plots.
CBI News notes that President Donald Trump has faced numerous assassination attempts and death threats throughout his years as US president and as a candidate.
The closest call came in July 2024, at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a gunman accessed a nearby rooftop with a direct line of sight to then-candidate Trump as he spoke on stage. A bystander was killed, and Trump’s ear was wounded in the attack. Agents shot dead the suspect, 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, at the scene.
A few months later, in September, an armed man hid near Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course in Florida with the intent to kill him, according to officials.
Prosecutors said Ryan Routh methodically plotted to kill Trump for weeks before aiming a rifle through the shrubbery as he played golf. A Secret Service agent spotted Routh before he was able to open fire on Trump, and he was soon arrested nearby.
Routh was found guilty last year of attempting to kill the president and was sentenced to life in prison in February.
Also, in February, a 21-year-old man, Austin Tucker Martin, was shot dead after entering Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida with a shotgun, but the President was not there.

World Cup 2026 at Risk?
How Global Politics Could Disrupt Football’s Biggest Stage

For brands and leaders, this is about:
• Risk management
• Global positioning
• Crisis preparedness
9/
The big question:
Can football still unite the world in 2026?

Israel’s President Isaac Herzog has indicated that any decision on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s pardon request will only be considered after efforts to reach a possible plea deal are fully explored.
Netanyahu, who is facing long-running corruption charges, has been on trial since 2020 and continues to deny all allegations.
Herzog said priority should be given to resolving the matter through agreement between the parties outside court, adding that no pardon decision will be made at this stage as legal and mediation options are still being considered.

Activist and AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has explained why he declined an invitation to an opposition summit in Ibadan, stating that Nigerians deserve a credible alternative rather than what he described as a gathering of recycled political figures. He argued that many of the individuals involved had previously contributed to the country’s challenges and cannot now present themselves as agents of change.
Sowore insisted his party will not be part of what he termed a deceptive political arrangement, reaffirming his commitment to building a people-driven movement rooted in accountability and integrity. He also criticised major parties across the political spectrum, saying Nigeria needs a complete break from the past rather than a rebranding of old leadership.

State Chairman Prof. Babandi Gumel insisted the PDP remains united and focused on reclaiming power, urging members to intensify registration efforts ahead of the primaries. He also announced the formation of a committee to oversee nomination processes, signalling the party’s readiness for a strong electoral contest.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Russia for talks with President Vladimir Putin, as efforts to sustain peace negotiations between Tehran and Washington remain uncertain. The visit follows a series of diplomatic moves across the region, including stops in Oman and Pakistan, amid the collapse of planned US-led talks in Islamabad.
The development comes as tensions continue over the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran maintaining its blockade despite global economic concerns.
While informal messages have reportedly been exchanged through mediators, Iran and the United States remain far from formal negotiations, with rising energy prices and ongoing regional instability adding pressure to revive dialogue.

Fact Check: Did Nigeria’s Power Generation Truly Exceed 6,000MW Under Adelabu?
Nigeria’s former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, claimed that electricity generation peaked at over 6,000 megawatts (MW) during his tenure. He also noted that available generation capacity ranged between 3,500MW and 4,500MW when he assumed office in August 2023.
The claim, contained in his April 22, 2026 resignation letter, credited reforms under the Electricity Act 2023 and improvements across the power value chain—including the integration of the Zungeru Hydropower Plant—for the reported increase in generation.
What the Data Shows
To verify the claim, data from the Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC) and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) was analysed, covering 2023 through early 2026.
2023: Peak generation ~5,000MW
2024: Peak ~5,528MW
2025: Peak ranged between ~5,300MW and ~5,801MW
Early 2026: Capacity dropped to ~4,089MW by March
While generation levels came close to 6,000MW, there is no verified record showing that the threshold was surpassed.
A Pattern of Fluctuation, Not Growth
NERC’s quarterly data highlights a volatile trend rather than sustained improvement:
Capacity rose to about 4,922MW in late 2023
Dropped in early 2024
Recovered through 2024 and 2025
Declined again to just over 4,000MW by March 2026
This inconsistency suggests the sector has yet to achieve stable, long-term gains.
Understanding the Metrics
According to APGC CEO Joy Ogaji, confusion often stems from mixing different industry terms:
Installed capacity: ~13,000–14,000MW
Available capacity: ~4,900–7,300MW
Peak generation: ~5,000–5,800MW
Average supply: ~4,100–4,600MW
Peak generation reflects a temporary high point, not continuous output. Even at peak levels, actual electricity delivered to consumers remains significantly lower.
The Bigger Picture
Despite reforms and infrastructure improvements, Nigeria’s power sector continues to face structural challenges across generation, transmission, and distribution. These constraints limit the ability to translate installed capacity into reliable electricity supply.
Verdict: False
There is no verified evidence that Nigeria’s power generation exceeded 6,000MW during Adelabu’s tenure. While output approached that level under optimal conditions, it never crossed the threshold, and average supply remains far below installed capacity.

“Why Are We Still Borrowing?” — Sanusi Questions Nigeria’s Rising Debt Despite Subsidy Removal
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has raised fresh concerns over Nigeria’s growing debt profile, questioning why the Federal Government continues to borrow despite removing petrol subsidies.
In a recent interview with News Central TV, the former Central Bank Governor acknowledged that reforms like subsidy removal and exchange rate liberalisation were necessary. However, he warned that poor timing, weak policy coordination, and lack of fiscal discipline could undermine their intended benefits.
Sanusi criticised Nigeria’s long-standing reliance on foreign refining, describing it as a structural weakness. He noted that for years, the country subsidised imports while neglecting domestic refining capacity—an approach he said was unsustainable for an oil-producing nation.
While welcoming recent progress in local refining and reduced fuel imports, Sanusi questioned the broader execution of reforms. According to him, key economic decisions may not have been implemented in the right sequence, particularly the liberalisation of the exchange rate in a loose monetary environment—an approach he believes contributed to the naira’s sharp depreciation.
He stressed that subsidy removal alone is not enough, arguing that savings from the policy should translate into fiscal stability—not increased borrowing.
His comments come amid reports that the Federal Government has increased its 2026 borrowing plan by ₦11.31 trillion, bringing total projected borrowing to ₦29.20 trillion. Additionally, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has requested Senate approval for a fresh $516 million loan to fund the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway.
Sanusi’s central question remains:
If subsidy savings exist, why is Nigeria still borrowing at such a scale?
