Tesla makes a fantastic Live Activity for Supercharging.
But for AC charging at home, I have been loving the @FleetCtrl Live Activity for a little extra peace of mind.
The Tesla app says "24+ hours remaining to charge."
Fleet CTRL says 25h 47m.
It's one small thing. But it's exactly why I love what third party apps can do.
Thanks @FleetCtrl!
A bit of an update on intermittent telemetry data issues the past several days (April 1-4).
April 1 (early morning) — As part of routine and automated monthly maintenance, an updated telemetry configuration was pushed to all vehicles to keep them in sync with the app. Due to a timing issue in how the new configuration was picked up, vehicles received a mismatched config and stopped streaming telemetry.
April 1 (afternoon) — The issue was identified and fixed. The monthly maintenance process was reworked to prevent this from happening again. As part of restoring the service, a new version of Tesla's fleet-telemetry server (v0.9.0, released by Tesla on March 30) was pulled in during the recovery. Telemetry started flowing again.
April 1-4 — Telemetry data experienced dropouts and intermittent delays. Investigation began. Initial analysis revealed the service processing telemetry was crashing and restarting every few minutes. The working hypothesis was that a backlog of buffered data from vehicles being offline was overwhelming the service on reconnection. The service was upgraded to a higher-spec machine, however the issue persisted. Further investigation showed no vehicles had significant backlogs and the crashes continued under normal load.
April 4 (today) — The issue was identified as a bug in Tesla's latest fleet-telemetry release (v0.9.0). A change to how internal monitoring endpoints are configured inadvertently broke compatibility with Kubernetes health checks, causing the service to be killed and restarted repeatedly. We rolled back to the previous stable release (v0.8.0, released December 2025 by Tesla) and all connections stabilised immediately. A bug report has been submitted to Tesla's GitHub repository (teslamotors/fleet-telemetry#458).
Telemetry is flowing smoothly now. Apologies again for the disruption. Please let me know if you encounter any more issues.
Much love,
G
Spent almost every waking hour yesterday trying to minimise the costs for @FleetCtrl. This was spurred on by an extra unexpected $500 bill for Google Cloud in Feb, on top on the already high monthly charges.
Getting closer and closer to taking this out of private beta and launching fully public or at least a public beta first. Probably public open beta first is smartest.
It’s a bit scary there is no way to cap Google Cloud spending. One incorrect config and you could literally be bankrupt. Especially after seeing the viral Google Gemini key that was accidentally exposed and overnight the dev found over $100k worth of charges.
Really appreciate of the very small community currently beta testing @FleetCtrl. I have never spent this much time and effort into a single project before. I’ve spent over a year on it. Time to start commercialising it.
I’ve got many features I’m excited about that no one else has ever thought of or developed. But for that I now need a larger user base. Can’t leak just yet what plans I have in the pipeline…
@FleetCtrl
This app is amazing! The new features and charging interface are incredibly smooth, with separate sliders for percentage and wattage. Other apps aren't as smooth. Kudos to the creators—can't wait for more features and the advanced rollout. I'd pay for this app.
@duanemach@dochafees@gbhall@Tesla 🙏🙏🙏 same 😅
PS new update out today! I haven’t made a post yet but it shows a tonne of charging and battery stats! Check it out whilst charging!
