I once owned a diamond mine. I was simply fortunate enough to afford it.

I later sold it and used the proceeds to buy control of Shoprite and Pep from the family [1981].

At the time, Pep had just 200 stores, while Shoprite had only 9.

To put that into perspective, Pep now has over 6,000 stores, and Shoprite operates more than 3,500 stores across Africa.

Today, Shoprite is Africa's largest food retailer. These two combined are South Africa's biggest private-sector employer, with over 200,000 employees.

I am proud of my country & Africa, my continent.

I live here and my family. I am a prisoner of hope (permanently optimist)

I am an African, just with a white skin.

I have been a chairman of aPepkor and Shoprite holdings from 1981 till 2017.

Finding a person to lead your companies is more about luck than wisdom.

I live a simple life. I dont have bodyguards. I drive myself around.

South Africa is a good country. Things are affordable here.

Safety concerns are overstated. There is no country that is 100% safe and nice. Even in London. Those people want to live an affordable SA life as well

OWN SPAZA SHOP initiative

The idea is to open 10 Spaza shops per day in each province.

I’m told we can open a newly refurbished, fully stocked Spaza Shop for R250 000 (this amount is not verified yet)

We, the people of South Africa will contribute a minimum of R250 to join the Co-operative.

Tomorrow Monday at 20:00pm, I’m going to be live on Twitter to unpack this project.

We also need to choose 7 directors that’s going to register the Co-operative on behalf of the community.
