Congratulations to @PurdueANTH graduate student Emily Fletcher (@FletcherEmilyC ) for being awarded an NSF Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant! The NSF DDRIG will fund her dissertation research!
Her family has set up a gofundme to cover funeral expenses https://t.co/8ZmfOrzGIc I wonder if @BlackTrowel or another organization could help out financially?
Kaylen Gehrke, a 24 year old archaeologist on her first day on the job, died of a heat related medical emergency in Louisiana yesterday. Thinking back to past heat illness of myself and others and the varying responses from supervisors. So sorry for her, her family, and friends.
Archaeologists: propose a realistic title for the new Indiana Jones movie based on your field experiences. I'll go first:
Indiana Jones and the Two Hours Spent Counting Fire-Cracked Rock
A bone awl & projectile point found during week 2 of the field school at the Ouiatenon Preserve! ANTH 428 students are learning about the multicultural history of Myaamionki - land of the Miami. More to come next week! #IndianaArchaeology
@ZJAyres This was in an annual letter to the whole university, and the section ended with this statement: "sending out thousands of exceptional young engineers, computer scientists, and other technology experts who happen to be men is a contribution few other institutions are making."
@ZJAyres I see this attitude often as a female programmer. This year even the president of my university bragged about our STEM programs being majority male and linked women in STEM to lower birth rates.
Class syllabus lists 9 projects with two weeks between each for a 16 week course (whoops). With 2 weeks and 2 projects left in the semester, the professor has moved the deadlines up accordingly (one now due on Easter). I'm tired of faculty's mistakes becoming students' burdens.
Excited to have witnessed/participated in so many conversations about decolonizing archaeological legacy data and software development at #saa2022chicago#SAA2022. Now back to the old grind!
Ending #saa2022chicago#SAA2022 with a wonderful session from @CAA_Int about how computational techniques can help us see power in the landscape and in knowledge production. Come check it out in PDR 3!
This is my first big conference, so I'm proud of myself for maintaining realistic expectations for how many sessions I can attend #saa2022chicago#SAA2022
Excited to be presenting at #SAA2022 in just a few days--catch my talk about using software to decolonize legacy data collaboratively on Thursday morning. Looking forward to finally doing some networking too! #saa2022chicago
