Privileged to attend #icbd2023 in Chile, joining global colleagues to accelerate action on birth defects & disability & present work by @NossalInstitute & @FrankHiltonOrg on barriers faced by children with disability in #Fiji to accessing supports
No consultation on new NDIS Assistive Tech policy so OT's signed up for Weds national NDIA briefing. Which was delivered from a bus-stop, then aboard, a PUBLIC BUS? Barely coherent. Still concerns questions+ @ndisceo @billshortenmp @SenatorJordon@EveryAustralian@PWDAustralia
Children are key to breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty & disadvantage. If Australia genuinely wants to step-up in the Pacific, we must make children’s rights & wellbeing a policy priority.

@Kavanagh_AM@D_JervisBardy Tbh I’m not even sure there is data on this. Wld be good to survey. Many allied health deregistered or never registered once the audit process was brought in, only see self/plan managed clients. Many support workers not registered. Point is lots not captured by NDIA data
@Kavanagh_AM@D_JervisBardy Most disability service providers are not registered so will not be included in NDIS stats. Unregistered providers also do not receive comms from NDIS or safeguards comm re vaccine (or anything else for that matter)
@aishamae@theage Except that we didn’t vaccinate the vulnerable while we had time. Vaccinations for people with disability and indigenous communities must be actively prioritised
