Most things in life are complex and shades of grey. Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war of aggression is not. Every single Ukrainian soldier died defending something worth defending. Not a single Russian soldier can claim the same.

Zelenskyy makes a strong point here. Russia has no real interest in peace talks let alone peace. Trump asked Putin for a ceasefire and he said Putin agreed. The US praises Russia for agreeing. But it wasn’t a reprieve or a trust-building measure that the Trump admin believed. As Zelenskyy says below, the Russians stockpiled their weapons and then hit when it would be even more painful. “They delayed the strike, increased the number of missiles and drones, and hit us during the coldest days.”

Trump and Vance act as if the problem is that Ukraine is resisting an ongoing Russian invasion. The problem is the ongoing Russian invasion. If they want to use American power to stop the war, apply it to the aggressor. Abusing the victim is not going to end a war of aggression.
