REPOST: If, like me, you are appaled that Puberty Blockers are being denied to children, read on - in this thread, I look at some of the research behind the ban.

It is suggested that one reason the ban has been enacted is a paper written by Sallie Baxendale titled "The impact of suppressing puberty on neuropsychological function: A review."

When I read her paper, the first thing that struck me was that Baxendale was the sole author. This is very unusual, as most reviews have a team of 3 - 5 peers.

So my first question is, why?

Did Baxendale not want to work with others, or did others not want to work with Baxendale?

I say this because Baxendale has "form" - writing for the trans-hostile online magazine UnHerd four times in just nine months.

UnHerd is owned by right-wing Conservative Christian Sir Paul Marshall, who also owns GB News...a news outlet who are very hostile to the trans community (look no further than Andrew Doyle).

UnHerds office address is 6 Old Street SW1H 9HP, and their neighbours until recently were another devoted "Christian" group, the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), that very organisation that advocates against the trans community (and women's bodily autonomy) and a named Hate Group in the United States.

The ADF was a significant player in the loss of Roe v Wade and is incredibly active in the UK—with an income of £1m.

Oh, and did I mention that ADF lawyers are using Baxendale's research in a critical legal case in Alabama (Boe v Marshall) in an attempt to stop trans kids' healthcare altogether?

Well, I have now.

And then there is the fact that Baxendale has willingly co-operated with another trans-hostile (and yet another named LGBT Hate Group), SEGM, who invited her as a speaker to their conference in 2023.

Horrifically, Hillary Cass accepted evidence from SEGM, an organisation accused of producing "pseudoscience" information.

Then there are all Baxxendales connections, like working with trans-hostile actors such as Dr Michael Biggs (associated with the Henry Wimbush scandal), connected to yet another trans-hostile group, Transgender Trend AND Sex Matters - why are they not named a Hate Group?

Many would argue they should.

Baxendale has been honest in admitting that three journals did not want to publish her paper before it was accepted and having read her research, I can understand why.

In brief - here are my concerns about Baxendale's paper:

(1) Any evidence involving humans is scant - in her paper she states this:

"The search strategy identified just five studies that have reported some aspect of neuropsychological function following administration of medications to suppress puberty in young people. Two studies reported the impact of treatment with a puberty blocker in young people with precocious puberty (CPP) and three reported neuropsychological test performance in people treated for gender dysphoria. One of these studies was a single case study".

I have yet to look closely at these studies, and there are people far better qualified to look at them than me, albeit I have been reading medical research reports for over thirty years. However, at first sight, none of these papers appear to be particularly damaging concerning puberty blockers.

(2) Baxendale references several papers involving sheep (yes, sheep - baa). How do you test the IQ of sheep?

(3) Many of the papers she references are quite old - incredibly, one goes back to 1976. To be clear, Baxendale doesn't suggest puberty blockers should be banned; she states that more research is required - others have taken her paper and gone even further.

However, the fact remains that many in the trans community would argue that Baxendale associates herself with some of the most vile people on the planet.

Meanwhile, children who are patients of private healthcare providers are being forced through puberty that neither they nor their parents want, causing immense distress.

To add insult to immense injury, the NHS trial is constantly being delayed because gender-critical bad-faith actors are determined to do as much as possible to prevent children from being who they are.

One of the parents recently told me that her GP described the ban as "cruel".

Sadly, @wesstreeting is not listening, except to the gender-critical people placed in the CHM, DHSC and NHS by Truss and Badendoch.
