I have met 12 women convicted of murder.
None of them had a nose ring, a leg chain, waist beads, tattoos, braces, or bleached skin.

Three were at Nyabuhikye Prison (Ibanda), six at Luzira Prison, two at Masindi Prison, and one at Kyamugorani Prison (Mbarara).

Among those I met at Luzira were:

1. Edith Kayaga, who was convicted of murdering her husband and, in 2015, was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and arson.

2. Jackline Uwera Nsenga, who was convicted of murder in 2014.

3. Esther Ajupo, who was sentenced to 25 years and 7 months for fatally stabbing her boyfriend, Ian Masembe, at their apartment in Kiwatule.

4. Joan Bainomugisa, who was convicted of murdering her husband in 2020 and sentenced to 19 years and 6 months. While serving that sentence, she fatally assaulted a fellow inmate during a dispute over domestic cleaning duties and later received an additional 20-year prison sentence.

There are also women currently on remand facing murder charges, including:

1. Molly Katanga, who is accused of killing her husband.

2. Awan Abuak, who is accused of killing businesswoman Lydia Babirye.

3. Regina Namande, who is accused of killing her husband.

4. Jolin Kanoheri Rugari, a housewife facing prosecution for allegedly murdering her two-year-old child amid an ongoing divorce dispute.
