If as @DanWillingham explained in @teacherhead & @Emma_Turner75's Mind The Gap podcast last week, causal thinking is at the heart of effective teaching, learn more at my The Professional Mind presentation in Edinburgh.
What a joy! Loved the inevitable breadth vs depth conundrum & having the confidence to choose depth. And the reminders why learning is SO effortful- we only remember what we think about & what we think about is not easy to control! Thanks @DTWillingham@teacherhead@Emma_Turner75
Memory Is the Residue of Thought: @DTWillingham Mind the Gap, Ep.10... https://t.co/8wILmQ8zFQ via @YouTube This is brilliant - @Emma_Turner75 loved this conversation.. you will too!
So relevant & accessible. My fav insight is around culture and the whole staff, collective endeavour to solve shared problems. We’re all being coached because we’re all professional teachers and/or leaders of T&L, striving to improve so that our pupils can learn more successfully
@MattTeachCoach session at #TDaPECymru today was a seriously impressive mix of passion and crystal clarity on Team PD. If you get the chance to hear him speak on the subject, take it.
A phenomenal book and resource. Practical, accessible and so rich in detail, supporting teachers and leaders to build a meaningful and sustainable culture of improvement. Thank you 🙏 @MattTeachCoach@olicav@WALKTHRUs_5
@PearceMrs Absolutely!Your blog was SO useful too. You make things so relatable to PD & improving teachers’ practice. Would love your take on how you define ‘responsive teaching’. You mentioned it when you spoke of ‘adapting during the lesson’ - but do you prefer to avoid using both terms?
This was absolutely BRILLIANT! Thanks @PearceMrs 👌👌 so clear, succinct & I loved the forensic look at the 3 stages of adaptive teaching- but through the lens of modelling, explaining and feedback. ‘Cognitively active’ is definitely the phrase I have been looking for this week!

Thanks @SCottinghatt@mradamkohlbeck & @MrChrisPassey this is BRILLIANT! Love the cognitive vs behavioural causes & the notion of mitigating transience. Q: WHAT IF the teacher’s goal isn’t clear because they are so focused on/distracted by ‘getting through the curriculum content’
EPISODE ONE : CAUSE & EFFECT

5/ Great coaches develop teachers' mental models
Coaching should harness what we know about mental models to develop teachers' decision making.
Join the brilliant @teacherfeature2 and I to find out how to develop adaptive expertise at our *free webinar*

@SCottinghatt Me too! Thanks for this fantastic thread. ‘Adaptive expertise’ makes so much sense when you consider the cognitive load on teachers when they are making tons of ‘in-the-moment’ decisions about which strategies will best support learning, especially for our most vulnerable groups
An absolutely fantastic start to our teaching and learning CPD across all our schools @initiolearning today with an insightful session from @SCottinghatt on Meaningful Learning. Huge thanks Sarah, it was so useful hearing these key messages with such relevant curriculum examples
Amazing achievement - I’ve loved listening to them. Thoroughly recommend signing up to the T&L spotlight, thank you, @PearceMrs and @BradleyKBusch - your delivery is so informative & accessible for leaders of T&L and class teachers. Being both, I get so much from your sessions 👌
By October, @BradleyKBusch and I will have covered 100 recent educational studies in the T&L Spotlight, all summarised with clear takeaways for teaching 🤓🤓📚📚🧠🧠
Such a cracking set of accessible evidence-informed texts. Just started, ‘Strengthening the student toolbox’ by @SinghAmarbeerG and am immediately blown away by its clarity and relevance- the classroom examples are brilliant- I would thoroughly recommend this read. 🙏 thank you!
