In my experience, and my circle of interests--not saying this is universal--that has reversed recently. All the interesting discussions are on Mastodon. My Twitter feed is dead, and half the posts I do see are meta commentary on Twitter.
They said Mastodon would never take off because of the network effect--everyone's on Twitter because everyone else is on Twitter. A new network won't take off because with few people on it, it'll be boring, which will discourage people from using it.
One year ago yesterday, according to my journal, I stayed up way too late working on a parser for a new little markup language for GTK. So happy birthday blueprint-compiler! 🎂
This. I don't think "web3" is the future, but even if it is, *I don't want to live in that future*. That, I think, is the disconnect between Web3 people and Free Software people.
Open source is about the amazing opportunities created by digital abundance. Fantasies of digital scarcity (in whatever form) are inherently opposed to what we're building.
