Had a chat today with a brilliant first-class graduate from Ghana. He was the best student in his department and already has his undergraduate thesis published in a top journal.👇👇👇
Despite this stellar profile, he was making two massive assumptions holding back his Fall 2027 applications:
1️⃣ Waiting for "Application Season" to send cold emails.
He stopped reaching out in January, thinking he had to wait until Fall to resume.
The Truth: Never wait! Professors secure funding and scout top talent up to a year in advance. If there is an opening, they will reply. Keep sending those inquiries.
2️⃣ Thinking an MSc is mandatory for a PhD.
He assumed he needed to complete a Master's degree first before even looking at doctoral programs.
The Truth: While this is generally the rule in Europe, you can transition directly from a BSc to a fully funded PhD in the USA, Canada, and sometimes the UK!
Don't let a lack of information delay your academic journey. Your dream program might be recruiting right now. Stop waiting and put your profile out there! 🎓✈️

If you have a bachelor's degree, you can pursue a direct PhD program in the USA. You don't necessarily need to have a masters degree. PhD students in the USA receive full funding, no tuition fees, monthly stipends and high visa approval rate. Apply directly for a PhD if you have good academic records.
Hopefully the ban on Nigeria international students is lifted soon 🤝
You come across a job opportunity. You’re qualified for it, but your best friend is even more qualified than you.
Would you still send them the application link?
If you think you’re 30 and too old to go back to school because you’ll be 34 by the time you finish. Just know whether you go to school or not, you’ll still be 34. So would you rather be 34 without a degree or 34 with a degree. Think about it??
