The Madlanga Commission has released Annexure C with 17 names linked to the summons of Major General Feroz Khan, the SAPS Crime Intelligence deputy head. Madlanga Commission Evidence Shows Feroz Khan Drafted Questions About Convicted Drug Lord Timmy Marimuthu's Alleged Links to Crime Intelligence, Julius Malema Followed Up and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi Later Sent Them to Police Minister Bheki Cele
Major General Feroz Khan's WhatsApp conversations with Carnilinx tobacco company figure Mohamed "Mo" Sayed have emerged as part of evidence before the Madlanga Commission, showing Khan drafting questions that were later revised and formally submitted by former EFF MP Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi to then Police Minister Bheki Cele. The exchanges form part of documents released from devices seized from Khan and made public through commission records.
A WhatsApp extract dated June 11, 2021, shows Sayed sending messages referring to a truck load and "Remington Gold Number 2 Mo" before Khan responded with a list titled "Questions for IG." Khan's draft asked whether Inspector-General of Intelligence Imtiaz Fazel was close to convicted drug dealer Timmy Mariemuthoo, whether he took instructions from him, what gratification he received, and how long he had allegedly been a captured public servant.
Further exchanges from the commission bundle show Sayed forwarding Khan a screenshot of a conversation involving EFF leader Julius Malema. Messages attributed to Malema included references to "Questions to Minister of Police" and a correction changing "drag" to "drug lord." Malema also asked, "When is it going to be fired off to them?" to which a response stated, "Tomorrow" alongside prayer emojis.
The records show Khan reacting positively to the developments, replying, "Excellent bro Thanks" and "Let's go to War." He also suggested corrections, stating, "They must fix up the spelling of Drug in paragraph 1," and later wrote, "Yes bro This should get him to lie And in return we can ask for his removal coz he lied." Additional messages exchanged between Khan and Sayed included personal remarks and expressions of support.
The questions later appeared in a formal letter dated June 17, 2021, on EFF letterhead and signed by Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi. Titled "RE: QUESTIONS ABOUT MINISTER'S RELATIONSHIP WITH DRUG LORD TIMMY MARIMUTHU AND CRIME INTELLIGENCE MATTERS," the letter asked Minister Bheki Cele about any relationship with Timmy Marimuthu, discussions concerning Crime Intelligence matters, and allegations involving former President Jacob Zuma and Major General Khan.
The documents forms part of public court records linked to Khan's abandoned interdict applications. The Commission released the full bundle after Khan withdrew attempts to block access to the devices. Khan is expected to testify before the Commission from July 1, 2026, regarding these and other matters, including allegations relating to drug bust interference and gold dealings.

“F#ck him up bro...He must stay in his lane.”—Explosive WhatsApp Messages Reveal General Feroz Khan Gave Carnilinx Cigarette Boss a Go Ahead to Deal With Journalist Abramjee After He Called for an Investigation Into Illegal Cigarettes
WhatsApp messages released by the Madlanga Commission have revealed a 2021 exchange between Carnilinx co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Mohammad Sayed and suspended SAPS Crime Intelligence Major General Feroz Khan in which journalist and anti-corruption activist Yusuf Abramjee was discussed in threatening terms. The messages were sent on 7 July 2021 after Abramjee publicly called for investigations into South Africa's illicit cigarette trade.
According to the extracts, Sayed sent Khan a message stating, “Abramjee gonna get fucked up bru” at 6:07:14 PM. Khan responded 15 seconds later, writing, “F#ck him up bro.” Khan later added another message saying, “He must stay in his lane.” The conversation continued later that evening when Khan asked, “Slimz bro Are you ok.”
The exchange followed the publication of an article by Tax Justice South Africa, founded by Abramjee, under the headline “AUTHORITIES TO BLAME FOR TSUNAMI OF ILLEGAL TOBACCO FLOODING SOUTH AFRICA.” In the article, Abramjee warned that criminals were being allowed to loot the country of billions of rand through tax-evading cigarette sales and called for an immediate inquiry into the industry.
Abramjee also highlighted IPSOS research which found illegal cigarettes on sale in 41% of shops nationwide. Around the same time, he posted on X that brands belonging to Carnilinx were the most frequently found below the minimum collectable tax threshold, while brands owned or licensed by Afroberg were the second most prevalent. He said Tax Justice South Africa's own investigations implicated “the usual suspects” and promised that a further report would be released.
Commission documents identify Sayed as a close associate of Khan and reveal broader interactions between the pair, including discussions about police investigations, a proposed SAPS face-mask tender during the COVID-19 period, and questions relating to former Police Minister Bheki Cele. Sayed and businessman Adriano Mazzotti have previously faced allegations linked to illicit tobacco activities.
Major General Khan, who is suspended and faces corruption-related charges, is expected to testify before the Madlanga Commission on 1 July 2026. The Commission is investigating allegations of criminality, corruption and political interference within South Africa's justice system. The newly released messages have intensified scrutiny of alleged links between law enforcement figures, politicians and individuals connected to the country's multibillion-rand illicit tobacco trade.
"I forgot to tell you that Ju called me, said that you will not ever resign, no matter what, this is a fight and we will emerge victorious." Those aren't our words. That's a direct quote from a Madlanga Commission WhatsApp chat..;between a tobacco businessman and a suspended Crime Intelligence general..;allegedly passing a message straight from Julius Malema. While Malema preaches anti-corruption on national TV, these leaked messages suggest he was quietly going to war for an officer now accused of criminal infiltration, corruption, and even leaking your private information.
In recent weeks, the Madlanga Commission has made one thing crystal clear..;
Julius Malema has repeatedly tried to shield Major General Feroz Khan from accountability.
First, there were the public defenses. Malema described Khan as a "comrade" and "a dedicated officer," even saying, "The police should have given Khan an award for his actions when he stopped corrupt officers from stealing drugs". When KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi testified that Khan had bragged about his political access and introduced him to Malema, the EFF leader lashed out, accusing Mkhwanazi of "dragging the EFF into internal police disputes".
Then came the allegations of political protection. Madlanga Commission investigator Tshepo Nyatlo has now alleged that Malema provided political protection to Khan, with court summons ordering Khan to explain whether Malema undertook to protect him from disciplinary action for financial misconduct within Crime Intelligence.
But wait..;it gets darker. Nyatlo's affidavit alleges that Khan provided Malema with confidential police information, including the name and home address of the complainant in a case against Malema himself. The same exchanges show Khan ghost‑writing parliamentary questions to target political enemies and using SAPS resources to benefit a tobacco company accused of massive tax evasion and involvement in a R92.4‑million kickback scheme.
The commission is now investigating whether Khan used his position to funnel confidential information to a political party in exchange for protection. That is a potential criminal conspiracy.
The story doesn't end there. On July 1, Khan will finally testify. And the commission wants to know: Was Malema fighting for accountability..;or was he fighting for Khan?
The WhatsApp message "you will not ever resign, no matter what, this is a fight" came from Malema to Khan. Why was Malema so invested in keeping Khan in the intelligence service?
WhatsApp messages between General Feroz Khan & Julius Malema have been revealed.
Malema has been pushing for the firing of certain high-ranking police officials. Malema used his political influence to interfere in the work of criminal intelligence💔
