Change fatigue - where an overwhelming number of change initiatives means people feel a sense of exhaustion, passive resistance & apathy toward change - is a growing problem in many organisations. Strategies for leaders:
1) Connect the dots: knit change initiatives together in a meaningful way to show how they're driving key priorities & how different change efforts may augment each other.
2) Truly prioritise: identify key priorities & show the trade-offs that are being made in making these choices.
3) Build and activate a network: engage a broader network of people who support the direction & who will jump in and help.

Adaptive leadership means shifting from being the leader who “knows it all” to the leader who's a “learn it all.” Five critical leadership skills for creating an environment in which learning things the organisation does not know how to do is valued over implementing flawlessly what it knows already:
1) Cross-cutting: leaders with more diverse networks create more value for the organisation.
2) Collaborating: fostering psychological safety to increase team performance.
3) Coaching: having critical conversations that develop others’ potential,
4) Culture shaping: shaping organisational culture by changing processes & systems.
5) Connecting: growing in empathy and authentic leadership.

Building a sense of belonging is a key task for leaders who seek to help people feel engaged at work & to create the conditions for change. A new study identifies four factors that affect belonging at work:
1) Be Myself - enabling people to be their authentic selves at work (this factor had the greatest impact on performance)
2) Acceptance - finding whole acceptance of one’s self-expression (this factor had the greatest impact on intent to stay)
3) Diversity valued - people believe everyone can succeed to their full potential
4) Connection - feeling connected to organisational mission, to leaders and to the team
