I used to be a feminist. For a long long time way before the term became a signal for social currency.

I earned my certificate in Techno-feminism as far back as 2019.

I had every legitimate reason to be a feminist. I came from a broken home. My dad kicked my mum out while she was pregnant with me.

Then I witnessed men my mum tried to get remarried to publicly beat and humiliate.

She’d come home with bruises on her face and body. We were young.

So she’d try not to tell us what happened. Later, I realized these men assaulted her out of insecurity.

My mum is a German machine. Femininity peaked in that woman. She’s like four people in one.

She’s was everything to us. Dad, mum, protector, provider etc. She embodies the spirit of feminism for me.

Therefore, being a part of the ideology was easy for me. It was not just something in my head but around me in Adesewa.

It got serious for me as I learnt about the gender disparity in the world.

I learnt in Japan how the results of women were deliberately tanked for medical school because they wanted more male doctors.

I learnt how a particular region in India had killed female babies for 20 years.

Being a feminist, when I presumed the ideology defended women’s right only, was a no brainer.

However, I started reconsidering my subscription to the ideology when I started observing popular culture.

I started noticing a massive decline in morality amongst many modern women.

I started noticing moral decadence signaled by nudity, sexual immorality, homosexuality amongst modern women, especially in the West.

Women started demonizing marriage and masculinity. Abortion became a sport and murdering babies a routine.

I traced the ideology that sponsored this decline. It came largely as offshoots of the Second Wave of Feminism in the 1960s.

People like Shulamith Firestone said marriage was oppressive for women and it must be abolished as it’s the power of patriarchy.

She said child bearing was oppression for women and she wanted a genderless world where genitals didn’t mean anything.

That line of thinking laid the foundation for transgenderism today.

People like Gloria Steinem popularized “My body my choice,”effectively removing all moral restrictions when it comes to sexuality and women’s body.

Sexual degradations today like Only Fans, nudity, indecent dressing are all enabled by this line of thinking.

Katie Millet held feminist meetings that marshaled women to destroy the nuclear family.

Essentially, a large part of the Second Wave rode on the premise that empowerment for women means sexual liberation.

This singular piece of ideology ruined the modern women and compromised femininity, in my opinion, till date.

After this, I realized feminism, though with lots of merits, since the First Wave made women vote and Second Wave rights to education and income and all; was fundamentally in contrast with Scripture.

No one has the right to their bodies in the Bible. It’s God’s temple.

The wife is not equal to the husband in the Bible. He is the head.

Women’s empowerment isn’t sexual liberation in the Bible. It’s being in God’s image.

Family and child-bearing are greatly encouraged virtues in the Bible.

This is why many feminist Christians reject many parts of the New Testament.

They hate Paul. They reject God’s word. That is rebellion. If you don’t believe His words it means you’re of the world.

The path is assured doom. This is why I think Scripture should be our primary reference for advocating women’s rights.

Then any compatible feminist ideas may be supplementary to it.

But Scripture first.
