@RivLeah I agree! I want to eventually become a teacher myself, and it makes me feel like I can make those changes in my own classroom someday. I liked the list in the textbook about changes teachers can make to be more gender-inclusive and to reject the gender binary.

@RivLeah I was aware of it, but I didn’t realize the major miscommunications it can cause between men and women (i.e., men aren’t used to using tokens of acknowledgment in conversation and women are, AND women expect it bc we’re used to receiving it from other women)!

@RivLeah I agree! This part was really funny to me, too. It helped to illustrate how ridiculous the poses are (and that they’re normalized to the point we need men to replicate the poses for them to appear abnormal to us).

"The Mask You Live In" documentary by @TheRepProject, its title a nod to the Orwell quote "He wears a mask, and his face grows to fit it," describes the effects and the dangers of toxic masculinity. Masculinity is described as "not organic," but "reactive." #CMN432

I really liked (and found it powerful) how so many experts from a variety of fields — "neuroscience, psychology, sociology, sports, education, and media" (taken from the bio under the video on the kanopy site) — had something to say concerning the way we treat and talk about boys

Think of all the times you hear "Don't be a p*ssy," "Boys don't cry," etc. The way we talk about masculinity combined with influences from the media/peers/parents cause boys/men to disregard their feelings/women/relationships and resort to violence. Gender stereotypes matter.
